We just painted our walls off-white. Should we paint our doors & trim pure white? Or match the same off-white? I'm afraid pure white will look like we couldn't match our whites correctly, but we're split 50/50 about what to do.

I would match the paint you already used.

I know there are alot of theories about this. I would NOT paint it to match other colors in the room. Nor if it's already painted (and there are not other built in units or doors in the room in a wood finish) would I attempt to faux woodgrain the trim. As the walls are a matte off-white, paint the trim, etc. in the same color gloss. I'm assuming the trim in the rest of the house if pure white and is the reason for the split decision? Because lighting plays such an important part in how colors look in the home, if you use this color in one room it won't be noticed in other rooms. Good luck!

Trim is not cheap and it is an investment in your home. What you decide to do now will affect its resale value. Always keep this in mind when spending a lot of money on projects.

Personally painted trim is out-dated.
I would stain the trim a natural wood color or better ye just use a polyurethane/water solution to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.

If you are using old trim and you didn't purchase new and you're just trying to achieve a certain look, then I would suggest that you paint it a shade darker than your walls,so your walls don't look dingy. I definitely wouldn't go with white.

Good luck and happy decorating.

You correct to not paint the trim Pure Whte if you have chosen a near white off white for your walls. Either paint the trim in a glossy version off the wall color or choose a contrasting color for the trim that matches furniture and accesories.

When it comes to white and off-white, always match, because the off-white will just look like it's dirty and old paint if used with true white.

white is to plain and doesn't match, the same color wouldn't look right on trim, maybe paint the trim a soft beige

if your walls are a different colour then paint the skit white,if they are not paint anthor colour to get a contrast.e-g natural tones that go with off white.
try paintin a small area(some where that is not public view like behide a sofa) see what it looks like decide to carry on or not.

i think i would go with the paint you have already used and save some for later case you want to touch up a place once in a while...but i think you are probably right about that...but either one would be ok... but you have it one color and you can save some and not be bothered about two colors....for touch ups
