Hit The Road Definition

It can be "I've got to hit the road Jack" meaning "I've got toi go". Or "Hit the road, Jack" which means "I want you to leave".

The first is the most common use but either is not seen as a rude injunction to leave.

Jack comes from "Jack of all trades", basically a gypsy/traveller that used to travel round pubs/bars etc plying their trade and the land lord would tell them to leave (hit the road).

There you have, "hit the road, Jack"

It means get the h e l l out and stay out.

There is a good site about the origin of it. It comes from the Jack O'Lantern at Halloween.

there was this Jack who loved to hit asphalt with his hammer, and one day group of young and lust full girls passed him by, and having nothing else to say about the fact that they would love being "rammed" by Jack, they screamed : Hit the road Jack !
and when somebody tells you that, it means - come to my bed...
