In my family, we each have our own towel that when done, we hang to dry for the next time that same person showers. We don't share them between people but there's nothing wrong with using the same towel for a couple of times by the same person. You're clean and just wiping off water. Then when I do laundry, I'll grab those towels and wash them. Do you use a new towel everytime you dry dishes?

Added note: I get each person in the family a huge bath sheet to use as "their" towel and each person has a different color to tell them apart. Then I have a bunch of regular bath towels that can be used if someone needs a extra towel (usually just me...I use one for my hair and one to dry off). So, no co-mingling towels and it is easy to tell each person's apart.

Why do you suppose people get monogrammed towels? To create a pretty display in the bathroom for guests, while family dries their hands on an ordinary towel 'hidden' behind the bath curtains?

Actually, it for identification purposes. A monogram or a distinctive trim ("M" or white eyelet for Mom, "D" or blue braid for Dad, etc) allowed one to rehang and reuse one's bath towel.

I'm not criticizing your 'fresh towel each time' plan, but I do find myself feeling sorry for whoever does your laundry and speculating on your water bills. Also, I wonder if you are tossing damp towels into a laundry hamper or basket, and if yes, then how do you keep mildew out? (Perhaps this is more a problem for me, in Florida?) If no, then where are you hanging your used towel to dry? Unless you have a large bathroom, or a laundry room very near your bathroom, isn't this a lot of bother?

In my family, we dry off with a fresh FACE cloth after each shower, removing most of the water, and then use a huge thick luxurious monogrammed bath towel to wrap up in and finish the job. The towels are changed every 5 days or so.

Am I understanding correctly that your husband suggests SHARING a common bath towel among several family members? This is a ghastly idea, on a level with sharing a common toothbrush. Neither marriage nor blood relationship is any excuse for that kind of promiscuous intimacy.

I think it's fine to reuse the same towel many times, at least the same person using the same towel a few times. I don't think it's necessary to wash it after every use, because after all you're clean when you get out of the shower. I can understand that not everyone wants to use a used towel after someone else though.

I and my husband use the same towel and we use it a few times before we take a new one. We don't mind it. But I'm not sure I'd want to use a towel after anyone else. My sister maybe, but noone else. I would not want to use a towel after my parents.

I prefer a clean towel each time I shower, but the only time I get that luxury is when I visit a hotel.

At home, since I do a lot of the laundry, I tend to use a towel for about 3 or 4 (no Pete Puma impressions here!) showers before I put it in the hamper. I hate laundering towels. I hate having to run them through the dryer twice to get them dry, and I hate having to fold them.

I hear ya, though. If I could afford Merry Maids to come do my laundry on a regular basis, I'd use a fresh towel for each shower.

Clearly, have you own, but i just started using more than 1 towel this year. I had always used 1 for the last 20 yrs I now have 4-5 towels, i usually only wash one when its on the floor or if im doing laundry and think about it.

I'd say the ettiquette is to wash it once a week at most.

I think it would be yucky to use the same towel that a previous person or persons had used to dry off. Each person should have his or her own towel.

When each person has their own towel, that towel can be hung up to dry, and then that SAME person could use that SAME towel to dry off with after their next shower.

i love me a clean towel! but, my husband and kids will use the same ones over and over and over again. i have to take them from them and wash them so that they do change towels every now and then. i think that it is just a womans thing.

uhh... yeah. One towel, one person, one use. Sharing towels is gross. Do you really want to be rubbing someone elses dead flaking skin all over your body fresh out of the shower?

u r clean when u wipe yourself but i still get a new one everytime.
here's a solution though: get names written on towels and have every person use only his personal towel....
