If u r very close to each other and u know him very well then just guess for his good mood and the first thing u do is let him know all these things how much u care for him, How much ulike him, How much special he is for u?? then see what is his reaction and I am sure with this u will surely get a signal from him if he too likes u or not. then go ahead with other things. :-)

Funny: i've just asked an almost identical question! I guess you just take the risk, or, if it's more your style, talk about it.
If he loves you like a sister, you won't lose a friend. He'll be flattered even if he doesn't feel the same way. If he's not, and nicks off, he wasn't a great friend anyway.

Tell him how you feel. If you are too shy to tell him in person out loud then write him a letter sharing your thoughts and feelings.
Do it in a cute way and create a coupon for a free kiss, or hug, or just an ice cream cone.
He will get the message and you will break the ice sweetly.
