I'm going to make two guesses, hope that counts.
1) They all involve spirituality. The only exception that I know of is being Atheist, which many would not consider a religion.
2) They all believe in the basic Good of people. This is true of all, but mostly for Atheists.

Yes, there is a commonality to all religions. Basically, "religion" is what we must do to earn God's favor...that is, what constitutes "living a good/moral life" in this world.
Christianity really isn't about "religion" (although some make it appear that way). Christianity teaches that there's nothing we can do to earn God's favor -- rather, that favor was earned on our behalf through Christ. Therefore, "good works" come naturally...as a response from our faith. Unfortunately, some people seem to forget that and get hung up on "rules & requirements" -- they misunderstand or get side-tracked from what the Christian faith is all about.

all religions since the beginning of time have been practised by human beings. dogs, pondlife and small green pebbles are all agnostic - only people can belong to a creed.
