being an American who lives now in the Philippines and has done so for the past 34 years I think of a great live. I think of all the wasted potential because of no leadership. I think of all the sheep being led to the slaughter by the very few who only desire power and control. and I think if God will only raise up one to make some big changes this country of many islands can one day be a great nation.

Maybe you will understand 'SAYANG' because there just seems to be no one who truly cares about the future of this place who is in the position to do something other than get rich and to steal from the poor.

My answer will be a little different. The philipines is where my parents met and fell in love. They were both assigned there by the US government after the last war to help the country rebuild. My father met my mom when he was told to pick her up at the airport. He dated her some there, and met her again in Washington DC where they were again both assigned to the same place..My parents had albums full of pictures of their time in the phillipines. It was a very romantic time for 2 young people, despite the poor surroundings at that time. I still have much of the philipino art to remember both my parents, who are now both deceased.

The first things that come to my mind when I think about the Philippines are natural disasters, an ex-colleague of mine who's from the Philippines, Gloria Arroyo and Manila.

Well, from age 10 to age 24 I lived in an area in the US where there were allot of Filipino immigrants. I think of them. I think of my ex's mom who was a total b-tch and his aunt who was one of the sweetest people I knew. I think of this tradition in the Philippines where on Easter some very devout men relive the crucifixion of Jesus.

No offence, but home servants; high class, expensive ones as opposed to other Asian nationalities. I really mean nothing bad but this is what is on my mind maybe through the time I have spent in Kuwait.

I think of tropical villages made of wooden planks by the ocean. I think of men who fish for a living, children who collect shells and fire wood, and an afternoon rain storm coming in on the horizon.

Not too much actually. I always imagine a poor country with very happy people. But I often confuse Phillipines with Indonesia.
