Im sorry to say that I had to put my Sammy to sleep last night. Blood test showed severe kidney damage and pancreatitis. she had fluids but still so weak with temperature going down continually. she had many red sores in and around her mouth. very week. but she loved to float in a boat in our pool. so I took her back home and we floated for about 3 hrs. later that night she had a small seizure so I had no choice but put her to sleep. I actiually talked to her very calmly in the softest sweetest voice I could do, for at least 45 minutes. i talked her into a very calm state with beautiful thoughts of her mom dad and baby brother and sister who were wait ing for her I told her. she just stared into my eyes the entire time. she was listening I know she was. i told her it was time to go and closed her eyes with my finger and she left. the vet came in a gave her a shot just in case . but he was amazed as I was. Then outside I lost it totally. she took a part of me with her. But its ok.

THere is really not much you can do, check some of the Vet schools that do research like Texas A&M School of Vet. Med. In Texas. Talk to a specialist, but prepare yourself, you will only be prolonging her life, as far as I know there is no actual cure yet, this is why i suggest you find a specialist, key word is Yet.

I´m so sorry you have to go through this. If you do find a clinic that can provide this service be prepared to pay big money. It will be expensive and it will be for the rest of the life of your baby girl, this is why sometimes the vet will sugest puting them to sleep, but if money is no problem, by all means get her the help she needs.

However, if you think that you can´t afford it, then don´t make her suffer more than she has to, please let me know how things are going and what you decide.

there is a yahoo group k9kidneys thats just for support of owners of kidney disease dogs. so go to the yahoo groups page (www.groups.yahoo.com) and join. You'll need a continuing plan working with your vet and it'll take too long to describe here, but probably the first order of business is gonna be IV fluids at the vet which can often be of dramitic help. He can also give you good diet & other manegement advice as well.
Particuallary if this is a younger dog ask him to rule out addisons (which can look like kidney failure)
