The only opinion that should matter is yours. As for the health of the baby, many women are choosing to nurse their babies up to age 2 or even longer. How long you go depends on the level of awkwardness that you feel. But it is perfectly safe for the baby. Just remember that it does get harder to get them off the breast the older they get. And it is certainly OK to stop if you want to. The primary benefits of breastfeeding are seen within the first year, but continue up to about age 2.
Good Luck!

Only if it is mutually preferable to both you and your child. You are still bfing at 16 months so you know that you have already made a good go of it. I'm still breastfeeding my two year old and I had originally planned to stop at 12 months and then again at 18 months.

Has nothing to do with his age. Has EVERYTHING to do with how it's working for the both of you right now.
A previous poster said it's best nutrition-wise for a baby to be eating solid foods and I'd say that's pretty obvious and I'd be dumbstruck to hear that your 16-month old isn't eating solids like a pig anyway. I'm assuming your son is also pretty healthy, otherwise you would have mentioned it to us.
Breastfeeding, like parenting, pregnancy, sex, and so many other things, is such a personal, subjective topic that it can't be decided by a simple age-based formula. If it's making you uncomfortable, start the weaning process. If you're both ready to move on, then move on. Work with your own instincts. You're the mama, you know best. Trust yourself to make the right choice.

There is nothing better for a baby than breastfeeding. It is the best way to build child s imune system and to keep him healthy. I do not have children of my own, but I have two younger sisters and a brother. Maybe you should continue for another month or two, but you can either stop if your baby is healthy and you don t want to do it anymore.

Well I always thought the recommended age was 18 months. If you haven't already done so at the age of 7 months you should have been weaning him with other foods like cereal and jar foods. It is not the milk he like so much, it is the sucking motion, babies are born with that and can only lose it through weaning, even if he cries, you should talk to him and explain to him that this is what makes him healthy. You may think they don't understand but they do. Hope this helps

God Yes. The longer you wait the harder it is going to be to wean. Besides....its just wierd. A friend of mine is still breastfeeding her 22 month old and I have never seen such a bratty kid in my life. Are you doing it for him.....or secretly for your own security? Think about it. There comes a time when you need to let go.

No. Should not stop his breastfeeding. It is very much required for him to better and good growth by physically and mentally. You should let him feed atleast for next 4 months.

I stopped breastfeeding my son when he was 18 months. I say stop when you are ready. If you are ready to stop go right on. You have done exceptionally well. You have done your time, lol. Good luck.

A mother's milk is important to a child, it's up to you if you want to start weaning him. But, I've heard mother's breastfeed their child up until they are two years to even 4 years of age. It's what you feel comfortable with doing. Don't wean him if your not ready, but start introducing him to solid foods every now and then. Because he's soon going to just need more than mommy's milk..

NO!! Breastmilk is the perfect food for babies and it has antibodies so your child wont be ill as often. I breastfed both my children till they were 2 years old and they have both been extremely healthy (they are now 12 and 19). Also, it's a nice close bond between mother and child.
