That is precisely the question I have had everytime someone says that. I have asked, "Why do I have to suffer so?" and I've been told, "Maybe so you can help others who suffer." Well, then why do THEY suffer?!
I suppose the answer is something like we are all here to find God and to merge back into his being, but then why did he ever separate us from him if that is the case? I can't find any satisfactory answer to this. When I'm not depressed, it doesn't concern me or I think I understand. But now, when I'm so depressed, no reason anyone gives me makes a darn bit of sense.

You answered your own question. The ones we are suppose to help are the others and everyone should in turn help one another.
