boil water and make sure you put dish washing soap in the water before you boil it!

You sure have a tuffy with taffee.
Get pan hot and scrape. When you get most of it out you can use steel wool but DON'T use steel wool on aluminum pots or pans.
Next time use plenty of butter or better yet a GLASS pot.

In baking school they taught us to use hot water for sugar and grease and cold water for starch. Works every time.
