On a personal level I do not tip if a service charge is added to the bill. The amoult you tip is up to you, if you think the level of service was good and you think that the server warrents a tip then do so. If the service was bad then there no reason why you should tip.

In general, if someone provides you with a service like opening a door for you, carry your luggage, delivering or serving your food, park your car as in valet service, then you would tip those people. 15-20% is standard for tipping. If the service is poor, then tip the person less, but don't be crass and not tip the individual at all. Most people who work for tips only receive tips for their income and not a salary.

Hope this helps. If you're not sure about tipping ask. And typically in a restaurant with a party of eight or more, the tip or gratuity is included in the check.

Usually people tip service persons like waitresses because their pay is crappy to begin with...because their managers figure it'll be made up in tips! Vicious cycle!
I've heard that tips are non-existent in Europe, because it's already included in the check.

on yahoo answers. all people think they can give tips and get the points. Just ignore the ones that give bad tips. and just give the best answer to the one you like the best.
in general, outside world. people still like to give their tips even though they are not good. just listen anyway and just say thanks and walk away. some tips do offend, just walk away. dont need to say anything.

If you give a tip to an ignorant person he will be disturbed; if you give it to a person of good character he will appreciate it.
