If the male does not impregnate the female and she can lay and hatch eggs without him then surely he would be redundant?

the hen does not need to be impregnated by the male, the rooster, in order for the hen to produce eggs. however, the hen must be impregnated in order for the eggs to hatch into chicks. the eggs produced by a hen that hasn't mated with a rooster are unfertilized and therefore cannot hatch.

Chickens lay eggs all the time. However, it takes the male to fertilise the egg. Eggs laid without being impregnated by the male are clear and infertile. You cannot tell a fertile egg at first but usually within a week the signs of fertility appear in the egg.

a hen will lay about 4000 eggs in it's life time. It does not need to be impregnated my a male to do so. If iit is imprregnated by a male then the egg will be fertile. it will hatch in 14-21 days then. teh hen will lay eggs everyday till it has laid out so it is called.

The eggs won't hatch into chickens. They,re only good for eating. A rooster is the only way for a hen to lay eggs that hatch into chicks! Hope that helps

A chicken will lay unfertilized eggs that can't hatch. They need to mate for the eggs to be fertilized so they can hatch later.

A LAYING Hen, will lay regardless if there is a rooster there or not, Have you ever heard of Hen houses, well in a Hen house there is no roosters, a Laying Hen lays one egg a day, and this kind of egg you can eat, and she wont sit on it, if there is a rooster with the hen or hens, then the eggs are fertile and SHE the hen will sit on it, not the rooster, and then you will have baby chics.. good luck n god bless

No, a male chicken is only required to fertilise the hen to create a chicken embryo.. if no fertilisation occurs then the egg is laid without a chick inside it! In simple terms that is!!

Er how shall I put this?

Eggs are hens periods.

To get a chick in one you need a male (could give ther right term for the bird but may be wiped).

Its just that As eggs are in shells the hen don't need tampons...

And you eat it...

Enjoy breakfast

:-) lol but true

the chicken produces eggs on her own. the eggs come out soft, and then the male sits on the egg and fertilises it, and then the female sits on it until it hatches. chickens don't actually mate.

No, however if the chicken's egg was fertilized by a male then the egg would likely have a red chunk in the yolk when you crack it.
