The beast is known as Satan.

666 is commonly known as the Number of the Beast in Book of Revelation chapter 13, verses 17-18.
According to translator's comments in the New English Translation (NET), some maintain that recent discoveries show that 616 could possibly be the correct number of the beast, and not the commonly known 666.
A few manuscripts of the Book of Revelation read 616 at chapter 13:17-18, and there are several other numerical variations. Irenaeus' mention of manuscripts having 616 is balanced by his rejection of their accuracy.
The reading 616 is intriguing since the conversion of Nero Caesar's name in Latin by way of gematria, Hebrew numerology, comes out to 616. But for this very reason it is suspect because such a reading seems motivated by that very fact and somewhat contrived. It should be noted that Nero is recorded in the Talmud as having converted to Judaism before his death, and was not a major figure in the history of both the Pharisees or the Saducees.
The remake of the film The Omen, which contains references to 666 being "The Number of the Beast," was released on June 6, 2006 (06/06/06). Promotional materials for the film made reference to this fact.

the "Old" languages (Latin, Greek, Hebrew) all have one thing in common, no numerals. Instead of numbers each letterv of their "Alphabet" have a numerical equivalent...remember your Roman numerals..those are also letters, not just numbers.
The number of his name...means that when his name is added up it will total 666....this was believed to be Lateinos (Latin Man)
by all the reformers and started in the 2cd century "Church"
There are many other qualifications to reveal who the beast IS.... all are met by the papacy...

its written somewhere in the bible that "666" is the mark of the beast i.e. satan but i watched an episode on the history channel the other day that said they mistranslated it and that it's supposed to be 616 soooo i guess i dont know really ;-)

I dont believe in what all is saying. Numbers dont have any relation with Satan or with any other in this universe.
