Religion has been used for thousands of years to control people. Their is such a thing as pure worship and this is not what I am reffering to.

During the dark ages the church dictated to its members what the Bible said, people were not allowed to be able to read or own their own Bible.

It still happens today, people in power use other people's faith against them.

Your in good company. Napoleon Bonaparte said," Religion is what stops the poor man from killing the rich man." Karl Marx said, "Religion is the opium of the people." When religion ruled with government it was the dark ages. People answer my questions sometimes good but most regurgitate bible verses thus, bypassing thinking.

Oh yes. While all churches and religions are that way to some extent there are some of them that are notorious for the amount of control and micromanagement they have over their followers.

I agree with you, but positively. Boundaries and control are not always negative. They are essential in our lives. What about laws? codes of conduct? school discipline? home upringing rules? Don't they all control the way we behave? How can our lives be without laws? NO CONTROL! Like it?

Religion makes the person in control of themselves in order to set them free. I control my desires; not the other way round. Such control makes me feel supreme, superior, elevated and free.

What rules do religions in general set?
* no killing
* no stealing
* no lying
* no adultery
* no intolerance
* no misery
* no disrespect

And others ... if you do not need such kind of control to tell you that you are not allowed to kill a soul, not even yourself, what do you want to do? What kind of life do you want to lead?

Religion for sure makes my life a better place. Hope you can feel the inner peace religion grants you one day. May Allah bless you.

Absolutely not! Religion divides people. If one goes to the Bible, especially Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, really helpful advice there.
Mankind has free will. God does not , I repeat not, force HIMSELF on nobody. If God controled people , they would be like robots and that is not why HE created us. HE wanted people that would love HIM on their own, no control there. Traditions of men try to control people. Bummer. Having a relationship with our Creator is freedom! know from experience. Try it out. Eileen

Yea, cause it works so well?

Sure I see the point, but it doesn't control anything, as there are many different religions, all exercising different levels of control. More chaos, if you think about it, then control.

Oh yes of course it is. I mean why else would they have to say believe this and do this or you will burn forever in hell? That's just makes no sense for a nice all loving god to create a place like that now does it?
