i mean that i know that higher megapixles = larger image sizes .. but what about imageg quality ?? .. does this realy only on the Processor of the digital camera ? CCD , CMOS and special processors like Canon DIGIC II and so on ??

also .. if we we take a pic froma camera with 4MP and a Camera with 8MP , and then resized the pic from the 8MP will this lead to better quality image than the 4MP ?? or they will be the same ...

your axiom of mega-pixels=size is true. Mega-pixel does not mean quality. Image Quality is a matter of the camera system. Much of the MP race is marketing hype. Lens quality is the single most critical factor in image quality. If you have a poor lens and a high MP camera all that means is that you can make a very large poor quality image. Lenses are not measured to a standard, are subjective/difficult to quantify and make for challenging product differentiators. You are seeing more and more non-film camera companies using lenses from the traditional high quality lens makes like Schneider, Carl-Ziess, and Leica and others. Film Camera companies make their own lenses, some better than others, 2 of the best from Japan are Nikon & Canon. Others like Leica are from europe. All make great glass. Carl-Ziess makes lenses for Hassleblad and Contax and now Sony. Sony just bought Minolta from Konica. Looks for a full feature D-SLR from Sony soon using Minolta lenses. All said, this does not mean that all lenses from Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Leica all great. These companies have products lines (i.e. consumer, semi-pro, pro) with higher and lower quality lenses in each. So be careful of blanket statements about all products from a single company. But remember High percision big glass takes big equipment that have big price tags and need big volumns to be profitable, that means big companies with big investments in capital equipement. Companies like Canon & Nikon have the volumns and high quality equipment to make high quality lenses cheaply. They tend to make all their lenses on the same production lines that make their professional lenses. They would place higher standards of quality on the more expensive professional lenses. In my experience I have found that the consumer glass from Nikon or Canon exceeds the performance of Pro lenses from other makers.

The processor like the Canon Digic II is all about in camera image minipulation and capture speed. JPEG compression is one form of minipulation. Sharpness and light balance is another. The more minipulation the more the image needs processing speed or performance.

CCD and CMOS is the process used to build the sensor. All are build on DRAM technology (the memory in your computer is a dram). CMOS can be made to greater densities at a lower cost than CCD.. CMOS Wafer Fabrication equipment less expensive, as it is more common these days, than that used for CCD. That is why Nikon & Canon got the jump on the others as they are big in the wafer fabrication equipment business.

My best advice to you is go to some of the digital camera review sites and do some research.

Megapixel Camera - Megapixel Cameras are IP (or Network) based cameras built around Megapixel technology. These cameras produce large, hi-resolution images. The quality of a Megapixel image is usually very high and can be used for print applications. This type of system is more suited for archival applications than for live, real-time viewing.
Megapixel images provide very high-resolution images of excellent quality, but the images are large in file size and therefore it is not the best choice for full motion video or anything approaching it. It is however, an excellent choice for archiving a construction project or showing scenic views. It all depends on the goal that is trying to be achieved.
The image quality of 8MP will be still much better than the 4MP even if you compress it...

You're correct that megapixels is an indication of how large you can print. Image quality is largely determined by the lens. A small part is also played by the type of sensor (the larger the sensor, the less noise), and the camera's software.
As for your second question, you can print a 4MP picture at roughly 5x7 inches with fantastic quality. Any larger and the image starts to degrade. If you were to print an 8MP image at 5x7 inches and compare the two, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. At 8x10 inches, you could. And of course, with an 8MP sensor, you could also chose crop 50% the picture and still get a fantastic 5x7 inch print.

edit: Having read the other responses, I'd like to point out that I personally shoot a 10MP Nikon D200. For the most part with a $1200 Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 lens.

Buying a digital camera with features you want is as important as how many megapixels it has. Don't get caught up in advertising hype that leads many to believe that more megapixels is always better.

Two factors come into play when deciding about megapixels: print size and the amount of cropping you do. The more megapixels, the larger size prints can be made without images becoming pixelated. More megapixels also allows you to crop away larger areas of an image and still have detailed prints.

have a close look at the moniter of your computer do u see any thing . Ok go to paint draw a circle now magnify it u see small squares which form a circle they are pixel {pix}. mega pix is the term used in cameras because pix there are very small and in large number. when u change the resolution of yr moniter u actualy determine the number of pix at a time on screen. Higher the resolution more the pix. More the pix better the picture quality but when u go for size the larger u magnify a picture larger the pix get so the picture is not sharp as it is when shot. what u want to do will ofcourse help u get u better quality at the any size when compared to 4mega pix

in a good quality camera (not some half-@ss claiming to have megapixels) the amount of pixels makes a difference. a BIG one in quality, especially from a 4mpx to an 8 mpx.

higher megapixels means better and big image.

For bigger screen u need more megapixels. But if u will apply more megapixels on a small screen quality will be good but text size will be reduced.

More megapixels means larger capacity to store details. If you take a picture with poor exposure/light/speed... then whatever you capture will be stored 'in detail'.

you see a picture,mega pixel mean is particle of picture,if mega pixel is hige( for example 8 ) your picture is hige qulity
