At the very least one to put on your short list would have to be the modular Onkyo TX-NR1000. Not only is it built very well, like a tank (and at about 80 pounds, nearly as heavy too LOL) with sound quality to match, and offers virtually all of the latest formats including HDMI, it's continuously upgradeable by allowing you to change out the circuit boards for future formats and updates to current formats.
In a nutshell, I would have to say it is arguably the best choice in the highly competitive state-of-the-art (flagship) A/V receiver market. You would have to (again, arguably) go to seperates -and surely spend a lot more $$$- to improve over this unit.

Denon or Onkyo. Both are excellent. Denon has slightly better specs. Onkyo is easier to use.
