Because they are addictive both mentally and physically. Your body is telling you one thing, but your mind is much more powerful than you think. Maybe you enjoy that lifestyle? Maybe everything around you reminds you of what you used to do when you were on these drugs? Certain things may trigger off a memory, a situation may remind you of when you did this...
Try changing your environment, changing the people you hang out with, changing your lifestyle? It may be hard, but remember that this is your life, and sometimes we got to think about us for a change, and what we want, and what we have to do for ourselves!
Good Luck!

I know what you mean. I'm not addicted to drugs and other substances, but I think I am addicted to something and it's hard to give up longer than a few months.
What drives me crazy is that when sad things happen, I turn right back to it and start the cycle again.
I think I am going to try going back to 12 Step programs and Anonymous groups. This helped me last time. Being with others helps even though it feels like it won't.
Best wishes and thanks for sharing your struggle. You're not alone.

WITHOUT GETTING TOO TECHNICAL; ONCE YOU USE DRUGS; THEY AFFECT YOU IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT WAYS. YOU ARE AFFECTED MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, SPIRITUALLY, AND PHYSICALLY.
ALTHOUGH YOU MAY BE ABLE TO WALK AWAY YOU CRAVE THEM IN MORE THAN ONE PART OF YOURSELF AND WITHOUT POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT AND SUPPORT OR THE PROBLEM THAT DROVE YOU THERE NOT BEING RESOLVED; THE CRAVINGS CAN BECOME UNBEARABLE.
TYPICALLY, FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN, MOST WHO HAVE QUIT ARE FREE OF THEIR ADDICTION UNTIL THEY GET DEPRESSED, NO MATTER WHAT CAUSES IT.
SO THE BEST THAT I COULD SUGGEST IS THAT YOU GET YOURSELF A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO CAN BE THERE FOR YOU,FIND A COUPLE OF HOBBIES, SOLVE THOSE NAGGING PROBLEMS AND TURN YOUR BACK ON DRUGS FOREVER.

If you are truly serious...You need to get support. While you are the only one who can make the decision to stop, you cannot do it alone
One thing you would learn is that the urges DO PASS! Hang in there!
