Yes, it is normal, and yes, you should worry. Many children react that way to sugar. However, it is *not* good for her. It is a sign that she is eating something she cannot tolerate.

Limit *all* sugar to a few times a year (her birthday and a couple of holidays). You can find other ways to provide treats. See if she reacts the same way to dried fruits (many kids don't). If that works, you can make date muffins that are sweetened only with dates (just add the amount of dates plus sugar in cups in the recipe and use dates for the combined total). Use fresh fruit for dessert instead of cake or ice cream. Your daughter will be fine--better, in fact, than if you keep giving her the sugar.

I have a son who couldn't tolerate sugar, either; he tried to throw himself down a huge stone staircase while "under the influence" one time!! It is beyond just a strange change in behavior--it can actually be dangerous!

I would definately haver her pediatrition check that out! That isnt a normal reaction to sugar....she could be diabetic, or just not be able to have sugar at all. Talk to her doctor.

Might be worth checking out with a doctor. Some people react differently to different substances: ie, they are allergic, or are missing a digestive enzyme (common in Asian people that can't process alcohol-my wife is in that category), or some other thing.

You would be well advised to take your child to her doctor with that description...it might be a sign of diabetis or something similar.
