There are several possibilities with regard to nesting materials. Woodland soil mixed with rotting leaves or an upturned turf into which some sawdust can be pressed with the fist. Also, rotten wood that the birds can themselves reduce by gnawing. I have tried all the above. However, my Rosellas prefer wood shavings only. It is not good to use peat, fine sawdust or other fine materials because this can cause respiratory problems in the young and their nostrils can become blocked, especially in the early days when their necks are bent over and they haven't yet started to keep their heads up. You should slightly moisten the nest material before it is added to the next boxes as this will be good for the development of the eggs.
