You are allowed to have one type of Nikah's since you will notice that the proceedings of both nikahs are very similar to one another, perhaps the dua's they recite might be slightly different, so you should have them recite both, but it is only necessary to hold one nikah ceremony, since i'm sure you are only holding one reception anyway. Hope that helps :)

Mate, there is a difference between a Sunni and a shia sunnis regard shia as people who transgressed as they do not recognize shabas and talk bad about them in which case they can be considered non believers. So they cant marry as their is a fundamental difference in their belief they are not people of the book but people who transgressed and Allah has said in the quran there is no mercy for them. Get the girl to convert say the shahada again and live a Sunni then you may marry her InshAllah allah knows best.
Regarding the Nikkah it is a simple thing in Islam the guardian of the girl will give the girl in marriage with her permission and with witnesses that's all (it is only that traditionally there are differences in the ceremony) it is only one Nikkah but the husband can give waleema from his money which is a function in which friends and family gather for a fiest.

i am a shia gurl...
i got wat ur point is..i dont really have the valid answer to the question but as far as i know there is no problem to marry a shia gurl or guy and the Nikah is the same...
but here , i wanna clear doubts about wat other ppl said ....
1. shia belives in prophet (there IS NO shia who dosnt belive in prophit Mohammad, DONT MAKE STORIES PLZ!!)....
2. Sunni and shia are the same in concept , we both follow quran and Mohammad . the only major difference is that Sunni went a wrong way and chosen wrong ppl as next khalifa...but shia chosed mohammad's children (then i guess we are the one who is following profit mohammad!)...and wat we follow now is 1.quran 2.mohammad 3.mohammad' children (12 imams)....
:-) peace!

it should be ok. The Qu'ran says Muslims can marry Jews and Christians which should require two weddings so I can see no problem if both are Muslim.

any muslim man can marry any muslim girl and vice versa. Muslims can only marry muslims, christians and jews. (cos they believe in prophets sent by Allah).
Muslims cannot marry buddists, hindus and athiests etc..
