sony is a nice looking camera but people keep telling me that canon in a better camera so now i dont know what to buy .
help

It's impossible to give you a straight answer. Sony and Canon both make great cameras but occasionally screw up with a specific model. For in depth and honest reviews (including value for money), there are two great sites. See if they have a full review of the models that you're considering:

Sony and Cannon digital cameras are eqully good. Both of these have amazing image clarity, and are good value for money. But of the 2 i would advice you to go in for Canon, as they concentrate only on this particular item.
You can even check out Nikon cameras. Nikon cameras are much better than these two.

Sony cameras are terrible when it comes to red eye! Go with the Canon... most Canons are slim with a 2.5 inch LCD display for better photo viewing and they have a lot of nice features, such as underwater capability. Good luck!

If I would recommend a new camera for you I would recommend Sony because Sony is known for manufacturing items that are long lasting. But sometimes it depends on what camera you buy and it's features. I would recommend to you to buy a digital camera that is at least 7 megapixel because it's really clear. Don't buy a 3 megapixel or less. Trust me it's not worth it unless you got it real cheap.

There's a reason why most pros use Canon. Canon makes great cameras and great lenses, because they make imaging products (cameras). Sony is a consumer electronics company that specializes in video and audio, not imaging.
