The Marine pilots are specifically trained for close air support, so I would call in the Marines...

I have no real preference whether it's Army aviation- Apache Helicopters.....Marine- Harrier Jump Jets....Airforce A-10 Warthogs they all are highly trained to support the ground troop.
Although; Marine & Army Avition sole purpose is to support the ground trooper or Marine.
Airborne All the Way/ Semper-fi
Thanks for the Email, Marine.

Depends on size unit pinned down, and what is size and ordnance of enemy? What is mission of friendlies, and what are standing orders regarding action if enemy contact made?

Good question, but for accurate answer, especially if you are in a command position, the above info important.

Every mission has operation orders. Could be recon mission and orders if contact is made with enemy force then there will be a pick-up, evac, zone possibly.

All that aside, close air support will already be designated, and friendlies are of equal size to enemy,(S-2) intel will know.

Apache or upgrade Comanche have awesome fire power, so if its me, bring in choppers.

I would call the marines. Every day, marine aviators practice close air support missions (CAS), but, being a Marine, I'm a little biased.

It would depend on who is in the theater of ops. If you have Marine forces, you probably have Navy air support. They will be appropriately trained to give the proper air support.

In the real world you get what the FDC sends you.

And having a 'trained infantryman' in the cockpit is irrelevant. The important thing is can he put the fire where it is needed.

Personally - I would prefer an Army attack helicopter.

Have to call the helicopters in first. There always quicker because there usually staged closer to the action than your fighters are and with today's weaponry and technology you can't pass them up. Not to take away from our kick *** Air Force but quick response is more important when your pounding the ground and your *** is on the line. HOORAHH!!!

God Bless our Military and God Bless America.

Who needs fixed wing you can't talk to them any way and they fly to fast for you to send them visual signals, they are more likely to get you then Hodji. I would call on Army Aviation (and have) the enemy FEARS Apaches and Kiowas they can talk to you on your radio net and the Kiowas will land right next to you and point at where the enemy is on the map.
