"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." (Proverbs 23:7)

One can't prevent urges as much as what causes the urges. All urges begin in the mind...with a thought.

“Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life”. (Proverbs 4: 23)

How does one "guard" their heart? "Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)

One walks in the Spirit by filling their heart and mind with good things, especially the Word of God.

“Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” (Psa. 119:11)

The Word will transform the mind and cause a change in thinking.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:1-2)

Having a renewed mind will help one think on the right things.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Phil. 4:8)

Also, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 2:5)

"I will set no wicked thing before my eyes" (Psalm 101:3)

XXX-rated movies, R-rated movies, and other forms of pornography are not options if we want to obey God.

If scripture is heeded, one can actually change and renew their mind so that sexual urges do not dominate the thought life and other actions associated with these urges take over like a domino effect.

Remember, Potiphers wife grabbed Joseph to pull him into her bed. What did he do? He got the heck out a there! He ran. He overcame temptation by fleeing.

So, we are what we think, according to Proverbs. The Word of God can change our thinking. We can walk in the Spirit, and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh by doing so. Walking in the Spirit entails reading and studying scripture and allowing it to be the guide for our thoughts and actions.

Well, we've seen what happens when people try to "prevent" their sexual urges. They end up being the biggest perverts on earth.

Humans have sexual urges. That's just the way it is. Just try to relieve them in the healthiest way possible, have sex with your spouse, maturbate or whatever.

i would suggest finding a cave and fasting for a while. or a wip for each thought...kidding ofcourse. change the environment you are in that causes the urges. if that be not watching sexual imagery in movies or internet....doing some exercise when your mind wanders etc.

the bible says that if your hand is causing you to sin, cut it off because it is better to enter heaven without a hand than to enter with a sinful hand.

in other words, stay away from what causes you to sin. if you have sexual urges, stay away from what is causing them. i hear that nuns take a cold shower when the want to rid themselves of their sexual urges.

Get married.

(1Co 7:36) But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

If you cannot marry...
(1Co 10:13) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

1 John 3:6 - No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

1 John 3:9 - No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

1 John 5:18 - We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.
