I have to wash my hair every day because it gets flaky. I have a few small scabs on the top of my head. I have tried every special shampoo - Pyrithione zinc, salicylic acid, Coal Tar, herbal formulas, and even medicated dog shampoo! I am embarassed to get a haircut or have anyone look at my hair up close, because they will see the scabs. It's gross, what can I do?

This may be a symptom of a medical condition. See your doctor. ASAP! Good luck!

First, wet down your hair. Lather in baby oil and use a hard, plastic bristled brush to remove the scabs. (Be careful not to hurt yourself.) Wash your hair after until all the baby oil is removed. This may be a medical condition called impetigo. Apply antibiotic cream (like mupirocin- prescription) to your scalp as it's drying, and twice daily thereafter. Change you bedsheets, linens, etc. Wash your headboard with Lysol, etc.

If this isn't the problem, after using the baby oil, try finding a shampoo that really helps keep your scalp moisturized. Head and Shoulders is also a good shampoo to try.

In my opinion it's Psoriasis... Mainly brought on by stress, I believe. Check the site below....dandruff shampoo and things like that will help but not work.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition. There are five types, each with unique signs and symptoms. Between 10% and 30% of people who develop psoriasis get a related form of arthritis called “psoriatic arthritis,” which causes inflammation of the joints.

Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis. About 80% of people who develop psoriasis have plaque psoriasis, which appears as patches of raised, reddish skin covered by silvery-white scale. These patches, or plaques, frequently form on the elbows, knees, lower back,
and scalp. However, the plaques can occur anywhere on the body.

if you've got long hair you shouldn't really be washing it everyday unless you sweat a lot and are very active or if you just get dirty somehow. Washing your hair everyday when you haven't really done anything to make your hair dirty is actually hurting your natural oils.

personally, i wouldn't use head and shoulders because that made my scalp conditions WORSE same thing with Sunsel Blue. I'd recommend using Paul Mitchell shampoo and knead your scap with some conditioner. leave it there for about 10 minutes before you wash it out.

itsmeee2006 is correct, it could be a serious condition. Check with your doctor. You could also be allergic to all the items you have tried. By combing and brushing your hair, you could have ruptured hives on your scalp (a waterfilled bump that can itch like crazy) Have you tried a shampoo with selenium, like Selsun Blue? There are selenium tablets you can take, but be careful, you can get into trouble if you take too much. Good Luck.

Neutragena T Gel shampoo and conditioner they will help the itch and clear up your scalp.Or use Dove bar soap on your hair it won't dry it out or leave a film .My skin specialist suggested it when my scalp became dry and flaky from psoriasis. And go to a skin specialist if you have one near you .God luck.

Dandruff shampoo first, then after you rinse:

Handfull of baking soda to wet hair, then add vinegar to it until it fizzes. Rub this in your scalp until the fizz is gone. Will clean scalp, eliminate flakes, and will also help heal the sores and the scabs.

You might have eczema or icthyosis. I would go to a dermatologist and have him check it out. Paul Mitchell makes a great Tea Tree oil shampoo that you can buy at any salon. Get to a doctor to have it diagnosed for sure so that you know for sure what your dealing with.

u might have eczema....or a fungus that causes those terrible flakes....mine are hereditary but i dont get scabs just lots of flakes b/c of a passed on dry scalp...try just washing your hair twice a week because washing it so much just makes it worse...thats why u have scabs...if u truly do have a fungus u can treat if over time w/ Selsun Blue....but u might have a dermatological problem so my #1 recommendation is to go see a dermatologist......hope that helps :)
