He wants to get to know her a little better, but she is afraid of getting intimate. She is afraid of contact. Which word is correct -- intimate or contact?

Both characters are wrong. 親切 means "warm or friendly" and 接觸 means "contact". I think the word you are looking for is 親密 which means "intimate".
The sentence should be like this:
他想進一步了解她,可是她不想和他做太親密的朋友。
He wants to understand her better but she doesn't want to be too intimate with him.

I think you'd better say: 她怕做亲密的朋友。
亲切是指一个人对别人好,
比如说:老师给我们留下了一个亲切的微笑。

Two also wrong, cost you should use the word "close" and not "friendly" or "touching"...or maybe i not understand your question :)
