I think the question is the opposite. Why do you believe? I mean I could make up a deity right now, I could call it Gid, and create a lot of stories and legends and myths connected with Gid. And after two thousand years of carrying on the Gid story, my followers at that time can ask your descendants "Why don't you believe in Gid?" Shouldn't my followers have to prove that Gid exists, rather than wait till others prove he doesn't?
But the most important thing is this. I don't really need to know the answer to whether god exists or not. I mean, do you need to know exactly what the temperature is right now in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean? I guess you don't, because that information is not going to change your everyday life. Whatever you have to do this afternoon cannot possibly be affected by the temperature in the Atlantic.
Well, whatever my activities of today, tomorrow or ever are not affected by the answer to the question if god exists. I will have to go to work anyway, and I will have my problems, too, no matter if there is a god or not. Of course, there is the thing about the afterlife. But that's a problem for the future, after I die. In the meantime, I'm not spoiling my present life for the promise of a future life.
And you know, unless your god DOES exist, and is a vindictive and narcisistic jerk (and I don't say he is) he will surely not mind my not being a believer and worshiping him all day long, as long as I am a good person and I don't harm people unnecessarily. And that, my believing brother, with or without religions, is my goal every single day of my life.

God is a random explanation for the unknown. God is one of many gods humans have created. The Bible is an imperfect amalgam of many stories. There are stories left out of the bible on the whim of King James. The flood and genesis were old stories with differences long before the bible was compiled. Christianity borrows holidays from paganism, then condemns paganism. It is contradictory in that God's description is untrue given God's actions. He is not good, fair, loving, omniscient, forgiving or ...not evil. There are many religions. Christianity is one of them. Judaism is one. Islam is one. Same God; they kill each other about it. The Bible incites hatred, and justifies murder. The "love, forgiveness, fatherly" stuff is just a smoke screen and is not demonstrated. Bad stuff.

I stopped believing in God when I stopped believing in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny. I went to an Episcopal school for 13 years. I'd say about 1/2 of our graduating class became athiests also. God is an excuse to explain the mysteries of life that we can't understand.

Whenever something is going well, some say that it's gods way of rewarding us.
When something bad happens even though you are being a good person, it's also gods way....
But if his that powerful, shouldn't we all be living a happy life and there will be world peace?
I've known too many good people who work hard and are charitable all to well being rewarded with either an illness or bad news..... so please don't say it's to punish them for their bad deeds in their past life !!
So nope I don't believe......

To answer your question...there isn't one!! Why is it that you think we should have to believe in something?
I am a very moral and law abiding person, I pay taxes and take care of my family. Just because I don't have any religion doesn't mean any of you 'God believers' are better than me.
I respect that you believe and many many millions of others do and that is your and their choice, but you should respect that there are many many millions of others that don't.
Have a great day ;0)

Because I'm not brainwashed. Because the concept of believing in god based solely on faith and no proof is silly.
I was brainwashed as a child, but as I grew older and learned a few things, I got over it.

Because I grew up in Catholic/Christian school, and now understand I was brainwashed with lies. There are no facts backing up religion. When I see someone talking about "god", I see a child talking about Santa Claus. It's all upbringing, and the lies from your parents.

i don't have any proof of him ever existing, and SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE prooves evolution. I mean, this whole thing of descending from Adam and Eve doesn't make sense: Adam wasn't even a child when he was "created", and who ever heard of a woman being created from a rib? there's a ton of other stuff as well, but i probably wouldn't have enough room to list them all

Probably for the same reason that there are non-Christians out there who know full well what it's all about and still don't jump on the bandwagon. Non-Christians who know about Christianity and still don't join up just don't think it's feasible.
