you will get many different breeds mentioned in this column and I wish you good luck.
My first recomendation is the golden retriever. They have an excellent long history as being a good family dog. They are capable of protection when necessary and capable of endless love and patience. They come highly recommended by the kennel club and every book in the library that I read.
Second recomendation is the combonation of a lab and golden retriever. You combine the best of both breeds while increasing the loyalty part in the golden and increasing the energy level as well. Also decreasing the diseases and body malfuntions that a lot of goldens are prone to.
My third recomendation is the Newfoundland. They are touted as having to be rescued from a child as they will put up with literally anything.
Please sit down at the library and look through the breed books. They are very enlightening. Good luck and happy hunting.

**** before you read this, i'm just gonna say that you should probably look at a few dog encyclopedias. i'm not an expert.....
well i am 13 years old so i don't have any kids... but i think i can help. i really love dogs and have a mixed breed puppy who's GREAT. all i can say is, although certain breeds are better than others with children, it's really the dog itself. certain dogs are great with kids and certain dogs aren't. however, if you want a certain breed you should look into a golden retreiver - i've never met one i didn't like. they're loyal and kind and playful (but not too playful) and easy to train. a dog like a dachshund, however, may be a mistake. although these dogs are WONDERFUL, they have very delicate backs and may not be good if you have kids.... dogs in the pastoral group (shepherds, collies....) may be too overprotective as it's their instinct. terriers are not always the best with little kids because, in most cases, they are very loud and playful and sometimes a little nippy. what you want is a friendly, easy-going dog. once again, i recommend a dog like the golden retreiver. however, like i said before, it's really the dog not the breed so you might want to just look around. some breeders or shelters will allow you to take the pet home and "try it out" with your kids. you want your dog and kids to get along.
well, i hope this was helpful and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Look up Pets & People Humane society. It will give you an entire list of breeds known to be very good with children. It will also tell you breeds not to get with kids. You can decide from the list if you want a big dog or a smaller dog, but do a lot of research before you get a puppy. It will be a part of your family and you need to be sure you and your 3 kids agree on the puppy you will choose.

If you're not worried about having a purebred, how about rescuing a puppy at your local animal shelter. My husband and I resued 2 and they're our children. We treat them like champions. One is a mix with ridgeback and the other is a mix with jack russell. I'd just stay away from anything with the pit look to it because you don't know what temperment has been bred into them, and there are more of them than any other type at the shelter. Get one with that 'cute little doggie next door' look.

labradors and golden retrievers are good with kids. personaly, i would go for a lab. they r so even tempered and patient, once they are over 4 i.e, :-)..labrador puppies have unlimited energy reservoirs and can be handfull. but it all depends on how small ur kids are or rather how big ur kids are. if they are below 5 yrs of age i would recommend a mature dog that is properly trained, preferebly a lab or a golden. if the kids are above 5 yrs and they themselves are full of energy and mischief, even a germen sheperd will be great. sheperds if properly trained are great with children. kids who love 2 play with the dog can be a source of good physical exercise for ur dog also. so, make ur decision and choose the right dog for u . best of luck and see to it that whatever dog u get, u get him /her properly trained.

It depends on what size of dog that you want and the amount of time you have to care for them. Our female maltese dogs love children and they are always happy to play and go for walks. They require trimming every month and a bath each week but they do not shed which is a plus for people who may have allergies and don't want hair all over the place. They cannot be left outside in very hot or cold weather but they can be trained to go on pee pads indoors. Our male maltese is a bit more aggressive so we have to watch him with kids.

I suggest a Pug. They are sweet lovable and have an even temperment. I have one and he loves kids. He is a little shy with babies doesn't want to get too close, once they are walking he follows them everwhere. He has never snapped at any of the kids. We have had him since my youngest was 3.
He is the best little dog. The only bad thing is that they shed year round, keeping him combed helps.

A lab, most likely a black lab if you don't mind the shedding. I grew up with one and they are very intelligent, not to mention patient and gentle with kids. Be wary of Chows, they can be over protective and Dalmations are known to have a short temper. Golden Retrievers are good, too, although they can be a little hyper.

Depending on the ages of your kids you may not have the energy to keep up with and train a little puppy? Good Luck
