Former Secretary of State Powell did say 'if we break it, we own it'! How true those words now are!

The war in Iraq is a direct result of a misguided, misinformed, selfish, and arrogant administration. Sadly enough in 2004, a slim majority gave this administration four more years to perpetuate and exacerbate this conflict.

The people in this administration used the 9/11 attacks to implement a pre-conceived agenda. Virtually the entire world was in our corner following the devious terrorist attacks. The support was there to bring those responsible to justice. Yet, this administration squandered that global support at the expense of our credibility as a nation, and more importantly, at the expense of our brave men and women in uniform.

They used fear as their primary tool to convey their argument for war. This fear was further extended by lying to us as a nation as well as to the global community, by suggesting that a link existed b/w Al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein's regime. Such an assertion was completely false and baseless, yet we were sold anyway. Without delving too deeply, the premise for war morphed time after time. The terrorist link, weapons of mass destruction, Iraqi liberation, democratization of Iraq, etc. were all given as reasons/justification for war.

The initial lies were uncovered so the premise needed to change.
And change again! Yet, the U.S. is not that good at nation building. It's not our place nor our business. If it is, why aren't we doing more in the Sudan? How about North Korea perhaps?. More importantly, the invasion of Iraq has distracted us from what should be our true objective. That is, bringing the bastards responsible for 9/11 to justice!

This is an unjust and unnecesary adventure we are on. Furthermore, the invasion was a violation of international law. Sprinkling freedom dust isn't the answer. Conducting ourselves as a responsible/law abiding and just nation, should be the example being set. Furthemore, we eventually become immune to fear tactics. When is the last time we had a terror alert by the way? Before the 2004 election I believe! Hmmmmm.?

Your friend deserved better from our leaders. We all do!

Attack on Iraq is fully justified, and some people have to shed their lives so that the rest can leave in peace. This has been the go of the world. War is an avoidable tool of diplomacy, it is always used as a last resort. But the sequence of events in post-Nixon era indicates certain blunders committed by the USA for which it has to pay a price. The Muslim unity prompted by the Sunny sect led by Al-Qaida and five other fundamentalist groups of Muslims will not stop their attack on the West, the Christians and the Jews till they are annihilated. Even procurement of Nuclear weapon for use by unmanned air-crafts as well as suicidal squads by spending from US $ 3 Trillion strong Narcotic Drug Fund is in the pipeline. Hence, wars against States like Iraq, Iran and Pakistan are inevitable and therefore, unavoidable evils.

It was a noble cause: removing a tyrannical dictator from power. However the US stuffed up several things.

Destroying Bahgdad's civilian infrastructure was pretty unnecessary, and served only to fill the coffers of the US company contracted to rebuild them.

Also, the CIA warned the White House about the sectarian conflict that would erupt following the removal of Sadam Hussein. The resulting unrest has meant that the residents of Bahgdad were actually safer under Sadam Hussein than they are now.

There are plenty of other noble causes to be undertaken in the world, although most of those involve countries with no Oil...

The war in Iraq is not as simple as it looks. It is not simply about the Allied armies invading and liberating a country from a dictator to restore democracy. There are deeper reasons for this war to happen. Oil is one. Euros against dollars is another.
Well leave it for the experts. I feel the war in Iraq is unwarranted. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on your loss and the numerous other people young, old, rich poor, good bad who have perished in the 'war'

I am sorry that your friend died but,how many women and children are dead as a result of your friend going there in the first place. We had no business there and even now we have no business there.
America was founded by violence,it lives and will continue to live violently. And america in all it's wars has never had a problem killing women and children but, they justify it as an act of war.
But,when someone else strikes out at america as an act of war,America calls it terrorism.
America is not the promised land and it's time they quit thinking they are.

I don't like this war, but I do realize that something needs to be done. I don't care for the way we have gone about this however, and I think that, that needs to be addressed as well. I feel that when Iran starts the nuclear plant we should pull all our troops out of the middle-east and Europe, Then NUKE the Iran plant, until it can never be inhabited again, and tell everyone that bitches, just kill one more American, we'll nuke them all until we see the glow from here. And than make a amendment to the Constitution that makes it a mandatory death sentence without appeal for ever messing with the Constitution again. But that's just my opinion.

The war is an illegal act of aggression to steal the oil of another country. It is a crime against humanity and should lead to the entire administration of the U.S. being prosecuted as war criminals.

Please read the book, Imperial Ambitions, by Noam Chomsky, and you will see everything so much clearer. Great book, very well and concisely written.

The constant lying and propaganda of the major U.S. media creates false justification for a horrible holocaust for the profits of oil companies.

Dude, i'm sorry.
For real, your friend was cheated and lied to (W even said to Blair that we would attack Iraq regardless of the WMD issue- aside from the fact that he KNEW there were none). Your friend died because he (or maybe she) believed in our country and what our country stands for. He died because he was fighting to protect freedom and democracy throughout our great nation and throughout the world. Unfortunately he was lied to. Bush ought to be HUNG for treason! There was NO reason to attack Iraq (if you're talking liberation, what about those folks in Sudan?). Your friend died to PROTECT and spread the freedoms that Bush and his cronies are now eroding. Your friend did what was right and was a hero and died as a hero. I encourage you to challenge your politicians (preferably in a public forum) to answer you why your friend was sent to Iraq to die.

Please accept my sincere condolences. I too have lost a beloved friend in Iraq and have had to deal with my husband serving two Tours there. The war was illegal, we should never have been there in the first place but now we have to stay and clear up the mess we made. Please remember that your friend was doing what he wanted to do and the rights and wrongs of it have nothing to do with that.
