We have a little girl Pug. About 8-9 months old. We always suspected (its kind of hard to miss, her head is definately a little deformed, she has a very simple look on her face and has to watch our other Pug to know what to do next. even her legs just move differently)
We dont care, we love her very much. I am mostly concerned about life expectancy or health issues. Vet has no info.

I'm sure animals can be 'retarded'. I don't know if that's the word for it but if inbreeding is going on it can cause an animal to be 'slow' or not what we would call normal. Try doing a search on this topic.

i saw a retarted cat once. The litter was born and slowly the mother started to reject it as she must of known it was 'different', poor thing. This one was well sad, you could tell, it was always alone and stuff. It was born blind and only had usage of 3 legs and it ran sideways. I thought it was cute partly because we always were watching it and looking out for it. unfortunately this little tacker only lasted 6months. They said it has a muscle proplem and borning blind was just a unfortunate thing. I f the vet as no info bout your lil pug then i guess you live ever day as it comes. The vet told us only 2months and they were out a lil bit. Just make sure its treated well in the time it has left!

Good luck

My friend had two Westies. One was O.K. But the other one was funny. He would run and bounce off walls. He did it all the time. He could not walk by a wall without bouncing off it. He could be very nippy too. He just had this loopy look on his face as if he wasn't quite all there. She started having kids and had to find him a home because he would go after the kids. He was retarded!!!!

i had a red dobie once that i wondered about. this dog would only pee on top of beds, and would slip through a car window closed to 4 " even if the car wasnt all the way stopped!. he was nuts. i do think a dog can be "starved" of oxygen during birth causing brain deficits. the placentas separate before the pup comes out so if the birth isnt timely there is no blood flow to the brain.

Yes.
It´s hard to say as far as health problems because most animals will not tend to their new borns if they have mental illness. Which can occurr due to inbreeding. The mother will either kill them herself or refuse to feed them.

Usually the ones that survive are put to sleep by the breeders.

You should have her spayed if you suspect of mental illness, to try to erradicate the problem form further generations.

We have had animals of all types and have had animals of various levels of intelligence. I've never seen one I'd consider retarded though. However, my wife had a kitten she rescued from near death that wouldn't be able to find it's food bowl if she moved it unless she showed the kitten where she'd put it, and then she'd have to show it two or three times.

My friend has a cat that was kicked in the head by a cow or something and now it walks of edges and runs in circle if someone screams or yells. It runs into walls constantly.
Its kinda scary.
