Check with your local Peta operation. They offer vet checks and spay and neuter programs. In fact, I have known them to do these things for free if you qualify. Before getting your cat fixed it needs to be up to date with its shots and usually that is what makes it seem so expensive. You may also want to check your local SPCA. Some SPCA's have vets on site or give out free vouchers. Good luck.

talk to petstores because sometimes there are spay/nuter clinics where they do it almost free
