Jesus gave some rather clear orders about helping others. What are some really good ways to help God's children?

The question was facetious to elicit a response. It has not been the one I had hoped to hear. I have read the Bible, I know all about believing in Christ. It has been my observation that Christians think that this is enough; just grovel and snivel and you get in.
I was hoping to hear that Christians really cared about what Jesus said.

tp, I'm beginning to like part of your answer that reads, "Third, because of sin, you have to die and cannot go to heaven." with one exception. The sin part, I don't believe in that. It is really stupid to think that 2-year-olds have sinned. It's just sick.

He may have given very clear points about "helping others", but failed to mention a required amount of "time involvement"- so I personally don't feel that there's a certain number of hours you need to worry about - in fact, I think you're missing the whole point. The attitude you should think about having (when giving help to others) is giving because you WANT TO- and doing WHAT YOU CAN when you see someone in need. It's not about something that "has an end", it's about a way of living- an attitude towards life while you're here. It's not like a "community service sentence" you're trying to fulfill, it's about fulfilling your purpose for being here, and finding the desire to be a humanitarian in this world- to connect spiritually with all people and with a purpose outside of yourself and your life, that transcends materiality and the selfishness seen so readily in our world. To connect with others (and helping is a good way to do this)- is to connect with God as well. The wish I think God has of us all is to view helping others as our purpose- our "higher purpose", and something that we should want to do on a regular basis for all the time that we live. I don't think that "counting the hours" involved will get you into "heaven".

None.
To begin with you have to understand that everybody is guilty of sin against God before they get saved.

Second, God doesn't tolerate sin in heaven where He lives.
Third, because of sin, you have to die and cannot go to heaven.
But, for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
See, it costs God so much to love everybody in this world and provide a way so that each one can go to heaven.
And it is a requirement "to be saved" first before you can understand other saying by Jesus or the Bible, such as community service and other good works.
To be saved means that you know that Jesus loves you and you believe Him.
You have to read carefully in the Bible to understand about this.
Start reading the book of John in the Bible from the beginning to the end. And do ask question if you don't understand.
Hope for the best!

Jesus never said anything about community service getting you to Heaven. He did however, mention that He is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father but by," Him. (John 14:6). Community service will NOT get you to Heaven. If people could get themselves to Heaven through community service, Jesus's crucifixion would not have been necessary for our salvation. Humans cannot 'work their way to Heaven', only Jesus Christ can get us there. We treat others with love to show our appreciation to God for sending His Son to die for us. God bless you!

You CAN NOT get into heaven through deeds!
You can only get into heaven through the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That he died on the cross for your sins and rose 3 days later.
The only other way I know to get into heaven without Jesus, no one on earth has ever achieved except 1 and that was Jesus.
You must obey the 10 commandments without flaw and obey entirely the mosaic law of the old testament.

Everything can start from basic, helping each others can start from your own family, neighbor or even your enemy, can you serve your enemy? that is better than you do hundred hours of community service.
But the road to heaven is not about doing good works only, that maybe part of the order as you mentioned...there is more other things we need before we can maybe...going to heaven? like how you keep holding firm your faith & your believes in your everyday life?
So you cannot exchange heaven with things you do, that won't work...cost you already have motive inside and sometime it may not work in front of God :)

Sean, YOU come to a decision if you're going to move to heaven, well information, huh, now not God! He gave you're going to. The will to decide on Good or unhealthy. You bought till the final breath in you to come to a decision. He appreciate this will likely. If you do decide on Him. He is there looking forward to you. If now not, then you definately as a less than perfect are not able to system Perfection and it is perks. The Catholic Church does now not train that God will punish you. It teaches what I simply instructed you. You want a well fundamental direction in theology.

You don't need spending many hours in a community service work just to get in heaven...You can enter heaven by following the teachings of the Lord and by believing in Him.

God only knows but our works alone won't get us to heaven. Help people by telling them the good news of Jesus Christ, feed the poor, clothes the homeless etc...

I completely agree with you that it is important to serve others. However, we cannot get into heaven on our service alone; we rely upon the merits and grace of Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, we should serve Him all our lives.
