It's sad that you ask this question - you can't judge a book by it's cover, and you can't try to give special attention to people you think are rich. Maybe that's why you don't get tipped well.

Give the same quality of service to the guy in shorts as the guy in a suite and you should do ok. Rich people shouldn't really be expected to tip considerably more than average people (just a little more) so stop profiling.

I am pretty well to do, you can classify me as rich.

I am an average tipper, but I will not over tip unless the waiter did something special for me. Some of the poor are poor because of lifestyle and poor financial decisions. The rich are usually rich thru hard work and don not 'waste' money.

I think a tip is earned, not expected for doing a job. I understand the waiter/waitresses are underpaid, but then they should learn to work for the tip, not expect a handout.

I remember what I learned from my parents when I was a kid:

" First deserve, then desire!"

My wife and I make over $300K per year, but we dress modestly... my whole ensemble could be less than $150.

Waiter and Waitresses, generally, are the best tippers.

Doctors and Lawyers, generally, are the worst.

Take it from there.

When I was a waiter, I learned to watch out for families. They work your a$$ off and leave so little gratuity. You'll spend less energy on a couple, a couple of buddies, a couple of friends, and they will leave more gratuity.

For years, I made LOTS of money as a waiter. I learned a few tricks of the trade.

BTW: Waiters and Waitresses do tend to look out for each other. Word travels about the stiffers and the tippers. If you're a customer who stiffs, believe me, everyone on the wait staff knows it, and they are NOT going to waste time kissing up to you.

People who do not tip are expecting you to work for free. It's none of their damned business how much money a waiter/waitress makes. If you want GOOD service, you'd better get the clue -- money talks!!! and you get what you pay for.

I wont to know why people or expected to tip. And do not say because you do not get paid enough. Because if that is the only reason find another job. You do not under stand some people do good just to be able to go out to eat. Paying a tip is not in their budget.

Simple answer is NO.
Don't judge a book by its cover is very apt for this question.
You only have to look at the stats for people donating money to charity.
Poorer people normally give more than the richer sector of society with the exception of the philanthropists.

People in the industry usually tip really well. We do know and recognize certain groups of people who are notorious for NOT tipping, but its too politically incorrect to mention them. It has nothing to do with how much money they make. Some people just think they are too good, or that we deserve to be serving them, for some reason. They tend to get 'altered' food & drink.
