Well, lots of reasons. Just a few ... #1: They get told that Jesus is the answer when they never asked a question. #2: Christians knock on their door uninvited. #3: Some Christians talk about religion like they know it all and no one else knows any thing. #4: Some Christians teach by word alone and never by actions. #5: Some Christians talk about their concepts of hell and sin in such a way as to make the other person feel put down AT BEST. #6: Some Christians just won't take no for an answer and try to force their religion on others. #7: ... I think you're starting to get the idea. BTW, I respect Christians and their religion. Live and let live, I say. But I demand that same respect and that same right to live in return. Someone find peace by being a Christian? Cool, I'm sincerely glad for them. Sincerely. But give it to me, when not only have I not asked but in effect said "No" already? No. Sincerely. ~ Peace & Blessings ~

The way some, and I do say some because not all of you are that way ~ thank Goddess~, of you come across, it's like a stranger coming up and reaching into your most private parts. Raping you. Leaving you feeling Violated. Some people hold their beliefs close to their heart, like some people hold their god, and to strip them down, call them names, and tell them that they are going to where you are afraid of ending up, it's just vile. You come at us with these 'teachings' that say one thing, and then you act another. Some of us are in a higher mind to not give in to any of the hypocritical, unwanted self centered things that you have to say. If you want to believe your way, then fine. It is everyone's right to believe what they want. But don't assume just from your beliefs that we fall under the same rules. If I don't believe in a hell, then don't say I'm gonna end up there. That's just foolishness. I'm a peaceful person. I do not harm others, I do not harm myself, I do not lie, I do not steal. So what if I am wiccan? If I'm not harming you, then don't harm me!

Because of prime examples from just this page alone. "Ephesians 4:4
There is one body, and one spirit, even as ye are called in ONE hope of your calling.

Ephesians 4:5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism.
Ephesians 4:6
One God, and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Ephesians 4:7
Bur unto every one of us is given grace according to the measures of the gift of Christ.

Do you still think their is more then one God, Christ Jesus in heaven?" ~ We are constantly getting quotes from the bible. We do not live by this BOOK, and we most likely know more about this BOOK than you.

"they dont want to open there eyes yet....see the goodness of christ" ~ We are told it's only a matter of time before we lose faith in our beliefs. Pushyness. What if someone told you, there was no god? You were going to hell?

"Because the truth magnifies their sins." ~ We are told since we don't have the same beliefs, we are sinners. If we don't hold those beliefs, then how can we sin? In our gods and goddesses eyes how do you know how we are held?

"i have experienced this, they dont want to recieve the truth" ~ Because YOUR truth, may not be OUR truth. It is rude to even presume that.

"because they know it's the truth and they have been blinded to it.. the last thing the devil wants is for them to believe in God...."
~ Some of us don't believe in the devil or your god, so how can you assume that the devil is controlling us? I personally am not. It is wrong to be judgemental. Or did you skip that day of bible study?

I don't get defensive..but don't get upset if i disagree with your views. I just hate Bible bashing, it is not needed. If someone wants to believe the Bible they will find it in their own way and time.
All the believers do to answer a non-believers questions is generally post sections of scripture. That's not an answer it is just an easy option to discussing the point at hand. Give your opinion not your God's.

How would you feel if I told you there was no God? You would think that I was wrong. People who don't believe think you are wrong just as much as you think they are wrong. I do not believe in Christ, but I respect other people's right to. If I told you you must not believe in him, you would be as defensive as I am.

As a former Christian missionary that is now a practicing Hindu, generally I do not like the fact that people assume all kinds of misinformation and misunderstandings about what Hinduism teaches and then when I tell them I used to be a Christian and now I'm a Hindu they immediately assume that Jesus is no longer part of my life (which is not true). The name of my religion may have changed and I may have gained new religious practices, but that doesn't mean that Jesus is not honored, revered, or worshipped by me. In fact, Jesus is still very much honored, respected, revered, and worshipped by me. I still believe very much in God, I've just expanded my understanding and experience of God/Jesus. I get defensive because when I tell them I am not interested in being a Christian again, that I have my own personal reasons for leaving Christianity and that God answered my prayers by leading me to Hinduism they tend to mock me. They also speak to me disrespectfully. When I try to explain my experiences, understandings, and beliefs they generally have no interest in hearing about them. I am not telling them because I want to convert them, I just want them to know where I am coming from. I figure, if they know where I am coming from perhaps they'll understand and either leave me alone or they'll try a different approach. It wouldn't hurt if they'd learn more about Hinduism (not the misinformation and misunderstandings, but really learned about it) before they just condemn it and then start telling me why it is false when what they are telling me is false information about the very religion I practice. I already know about Christianity and was even a missionary. I know the tactics, I understand the motivations, I know about Christianity. They need a different approach. If anything, it wouldn't hurt if they'd just be more respectful when talking to me. I get defensive, but I always try to remain very respectful. And don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-Christianity. I have many friends who are Christian and we are very respectful and considerate and tolerant of each other's religions. I have been to church with them and they have come to satsang with me. They have even offered to go to the temple with me. And I have friends of other religions as well who are equally respectful, considerate, and tolerant. I have been to Buddhist temples and centers with my Buddhist friends, Pagan covens and circles with my Pagan friends, an Islamic meeting with Muslim friends...not mosque, just a group that met to talk about the Koran and so on, and so on and on and on. On Sundays I attend an Unitarian-Universalist church which is full of a diverse group of people who have various different beliefs. I like the UU church because it does a lot of community service work and also works on local social justice and human rights issues. Plus everyone is able to openly share whatever religion they are, although some are just UU they aren't any other religion.

because they know it's the truth and they have been blinded to it.. the last thing the devil wants is for them to believe in God....
God's word does say "do not throw your pearls before the swine..least they trample them under their feet and devour you with them "
Most would rather not believe they themselves are not God...or have to admit they were wrong about Him not existing... thank God that He still believes they exist anyways.
Some scoff as they are too afraid or unsure of how & what to ask when they really want to know about God..
Just be careful who you tell...make sure it is the right person to explain God to..sometimes christians want to obey God to the point of telling everyone..instead of making sure they are really the ones God wants them to tell..
Your walk is much more important...as most know you are a christian in their spirits..as God's spirit is in everyone.....

Perhaps because we've already heard it, and we don't accept it as the truth? No matter how many times you're told something that you think of as inconceivable, you won't believe it. We get tired of it. Sorry, but it's the truth. You're assuming that non-Christians do not know anything about Christianity. I was raised Christian, and I felt no spiritual connection to that religion at all. I found my spirituality within the Wiccan faith, and I am just as happy as any Christian convert (and happier than some I've seen).

Please just don't bother with me again, at least. You know that I know about what you're trying to tell me, and you know that I just don't care or accept it as truth.

religion and faith are extremely personal subjects for lots of people. Some branches of Christianity are more evangelistic and others more private. If you find people defensive when you talk to them, it's possible that you're putting them on the defensive by your delivery. It's a delicate subject!

Based on personal experience, it's because believers are very persistent in trying to spread the message about God, and it's quite unnerving and an invasion of personal beliefs.

Because we're inundated with it all the time. People who wouldn't dream of trying to convert an individual of a different religion somehow think atheists are fair game.

Also because of the implied insult. "Poor you, ignorant and benighted, you just don't know the truth, but I will enlighten you." You assume we've never thought it through, which is insulting.

(added later) I think the pickle guy has the best answer. :)
