The reproductive cycle of the female K-9 (dog is used only for the male and the technical word for the female is not allowed) is divided in 4 stages.

Stage 1: Proestrus
This stage has a duration of aprox 9 days. It can be recognized by the bloody vaginal discharge and the swelling of the external genitalia. She will not allow the male to mount her but they will be attracted to her.

Stage 2 Estrus.
The duration of this stage is also about 9 (can last up to 11) days. This is the stage where the female will accept the male and ovulation ocurrs, usually within the first 48 hrs, but this depends on the individual, whether or not she is what we call an early or late ovulator. A simple papanicolau test can show what stage she is in. This is also the stage where Artifical insemination will be practiced. It is very important that you not allow your pet to be in contact with males at this time if you don´t want her to get pregnant. She should be in seclusion for at least 18 to 20 days in order to prevent pregnancy, it starts on day one of bloody discharge. You should mark your calander.

Stage 3 Diestrus
This stage lasts between 60 and 90 days, and the reproductive system is controled by progesteron, whether or not she is pregnant. This is also the stage where false pregnancies can be observed.

Stage 4 Anestrus
This stage has a duration of 3 or 4 months. No sexual activity is observed during this stage.

You don´t mention the breed, but 10 months for the first heat is rather late, unless it is a giant breed, in which this can be considered normal or comon.

Most female K-9´s go into heat 2 times a year. It is recomended that the first heat be skipped if you plan to breed her to give her the chance to mature physically and emotionally and to reach her proper height. The pregnancy can stunt the growth in animals that are not fully grown.

You should also visit your vet in order to establish a vaccination and deworming calander and feeding requierments during pregnancy and lactation, if you want to use her for breeding, if you don´t want to breed her than you should talk to him/her concerning the proper time to get her spayed.

Hope this can help you. Good luck.

5-12 days usually. It also depends on how many male dogs are around.
After the bleeding, she will still be in heat, and in a source, by wagging her tail,, is trying to attract a siar

The same as a real gestation: 63 days, and in the most serious cases, after this period of time comes a phase of lactation (real production of milk), that needs to be immediately interrupted through a specific treatment to avoid the risk of infecting the mammary glands

approximately 5 days.

I'm assuming you know that if you don't get your dog spayed before her first heat, she has an increased chance of breast cancer...

The only way to off-set this is to let her have a litter, then spay her immediately after...unless of course you want to continue to breed.

Since you aren't aware of heat cycles though, I'm assuming you didn't know all of this...Please, get your baby spayed asap.
