Go see a recrutiter and look online to learn more about your options. It would be helpful to talk to someone who is already in once you have seen the recrutier so that they can tell you what the job (called an MOS) you are looking at is REALLY like. Recruiters aren't all bad, but remember they have to fill lots of different types of positions so they may steer you into a field that you aren't well suited (that's where that trusted friend would be helpful). Make sure that anything the promise you is in writing. Good luck.

First of all, to the three who answered NEGATIVELY....shut the hell up. Who are you trying to discourage someone from joining? IT'S that person's choice, not yours. Be supportive and proud of the fact that you have people like this person giving up part of their life for something greater: our freedom and way of life.

Now, secondly, go talk to a recruiter or visit GoArmy.com or ArmyStudyGuide.com. They'll tell you all you need to know. And if you talk to a recruiter, be sure to get ALL the information you can. Like someone said, they won't lie, but they do have a lot to do, and can (and most likely) will rush you through. And be prepared to sign your name and SS#, alot. I mean, ALOT! There is a ton of paperwork to fill out. Oh yeah, and when you do MEPS, be sure to answer all the questions truthfully, and honestly. If you don't and they find out, you'll get a dishonrable discharge, fined, and jail time for fraudulent enlistment.

You above do your research if you're active duty you failed that question come on there are more branches than the Army, and way above there are MOS's, AFSC's, Rate's, MOS's are USMC, Army, ect...., Rate's are U.S. Navy and USCG, AFSC = USAF, designators and specialties and sub specialties ect... are for officers, I am going to guess you don't have a four year degree "THAT IS NOT A CUT DOWN" so you'll be Enlisted. and IT IS "Enlist" not "Inlist" people, read research, and understand, before you go off answering a question. Here you go.....first contact any recrutier in your area for any branch take the ASVAB through them. If you can use yahoo you can use google. look up jobs in the services think and talk to no one on yahoo messenger that says they are military if you don't know how to join you won't know if they are full of it ect..., contact a real live person. It's not rocket science, 411 works.....say "Army Recrutier "your town" or USMC, Navy, USCG, ect.... talk to them all. Don't base your choice on who says whos best ect.... that's the old turf pissing contest, after you find a recrutier and I quote any branch they will talk to you and assist you in studying materials for the "ASVAB" and info on their branch of service also take you to take the ASVAB you'll have a RAW score on your ASVAB when you take it does not matter what branch recrutier you take it through it's the same test for all and any recrutier can get you're scores and tell you what you qualify for in each branch. Anyway just dial 411 or look in the phone book for military recrutiers they don't come to you, you go to them. AND REMEMBER THEY ARE ALL NICE PEOPLE AND ARE LIKE SALES PEOPLE DO YOUR RESEARCH 'JUST BECUSE YOU TOOK THE 'ASVAB' WITH A NAVY RECRUTIER DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO JOIN THE NAVY IT'S GOOD FOR ALL BRANCHES 'SO TALK TO ALL OF THEM BEFORE YOU HEAD UP TO MEPS AND SIGN THAT DOTTED LINE. YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO RETAKE ''ASVAB'' IF YOU FIND YOU LIKE A JOB IN THE USAF BETTER THAN THE USCG ECT... IT COUNTS FOR ALL.

do lots of research, visit recuiters & take your time before you get locked into any particular service or job. Only do it if it's right for you, but it'll be an excellent life changing experience for you to look back on.
