A blood test would be the first thing done to rule out cancer before doing further tests. It is not conclusive of cancer. Many tests have skewed readings..They are "markers" i.e. indicators of cellular activity. So, don't worry if one particular test is high. That just means that further testing should be done. But, by all means, do the testing. Cancer is very curable in most cases if caught early. Good luck!

TOO MANY YES. The answer is yes and no. There are no good blood test for cancer. Take the PSA. IT IS NOT 100% accurate. They have high False Positive and False Negative Rates. This means that some people have normal PSA levels and stil have prostate cancer and some people have high PSA values and not have prostate cancer. In general these test are alot less useful then we actually think they are.

Yes, you can check for tumour markers through a blood test. However, it is not enough to to prove you have cancer through a blood test. You have to undergo many different types of exams before the diagnosis of cancer is confirmed.

Yes, but if there is the possibility of you having other symptoms get them checked out! I was sick in June 2004. Low blood counts, high fever, couldn't eat, couldn't do anything. They admitted me into the hospital for 2 days. They tested me for Leukemia, HIV, Hep B, you name it they tested me. I had a tenderness on the back of my head. I kept an eye on it until I couldn't take it anymore. In October the lump was removed. It was about 2 inches in diameter. In November I was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. Only because of my persistence was I finally diagnosed. I am happy to say that I am 1 year, 1 month into my remission. If you are concerned, go see your doctor, you can't take any chances!!!

Yes, but the haematologist would need some idea of what kind of cancer he was looking for, in order to decide what markers to examine.

However, generally, raised WBC count with no other signs of illness can be an indication
