It's true thw world today is making it look as if your fat or not a stick your not beautiful. I'm 17 and have came accustom to it. I weigh 103-104 and I have an eating disorder. I feel fat even though everyone else see me as a toothpick. I even quit my old job as a way to losse weigh I worked at an Icecream shop for 10 months in that 10 months I gained 10 lbs. I'm now working on loosing that 10lbs. and getting back under 100, like I was last August. I dont know why I do it but even when people tell me I look too thin I just laugh and say you must be blind.

Honestly, it's true... I am 17 myself -- however, I am content with my weight. I have like, a million friends who complain that they are fat. Even when I was younger, too. I think parents put a lot of stress on teenagers about being fat... parents don't necessarily tell their kids they are fat, but if their parents complain that THEY, themselves are fat, from a young age, a child learns from their parents... and they want to be slim jims too.
Kids make fun of others who are fat, also.
Let's not forget our "idols" such as Lindsey Lohan and Hilary Duff (which, by the way, I can't STAND them!!) who are going anorexic.
And how thin all these supermodels are!!
Lots of pressure for kids, trust me.

i am 13 and i think i am fat but i only weight 125 and am 5'4 but all of us see the celebreties who weight like 90 pounds.THen the people that see that think that is "THE LOOK." So when we see the on t.v. , in a magazine, in the newspaper we put down the cookie and hit the gym or work ourselves til we can't even open the fridge or cabinet. And the stars they have and effect on us teenagers and everyone who is concerend with the weight . and when we see someone else that is skinner than yourself you think "man look at me i am so fat" but i dont think skinny is ever going to be out so we will have this effect on us forever. but then again america is becoming and obese country so whatever happens, happens and we can't stop it. ANd WE ARE THE ONE WHO LET IT HAPPEN DO YOU WANT TO SEE AN OVERWEIGHT PERSON PLAYING THE ROLE OF SUPERMAN,OR SPIDERMAN!!! WE BRING THIS UPON OURSELVES BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT IN A FLIM OR T.V. SHOW OR WHATEVER. WE WANT TO SEE WHAT WE SEE SO THAT IS WHAT THE MEDIA SHOWS.

I agree! I work part time as a PT with people in the age brackets of 12 to 60 and the best thing you can do for anyone is teach them to love their own bodies
we are all different shapes yet all sexy because of it !
I hope like me when you see these questions you go out of your way to encourage them to love themselves! it might be small but at least it is something

I AGREE with you that is totally sick. BUT child hood obesity is the number 1 problem in America among school age children. ITS a growing problem. And people and Dr's have no solutions. I suggest they go back to counting calories. YOU take too many calories in you gain weight . you eat the Right amount it helps you maintain. IF you r on reduction calorie diet you lose.

I don't ever remember talking to my friends (when I was in gradeschool or even junior high) about weight. I was always worried I was too skinny (kids picked on me for it!)... but I did notice that too. It is a double edged sword the media, because they talk a lot about kids being obese, then they also talk about how the sexual content of the media forces adult concerns on children (like weight!).

They're comparing themselves to actresses like the Olsen twins, Lindsey Lohann, etc., and it's just ridiculous. Childhood obesity is an epidemic in this country (US) but it seems like the teen girls who are not obese are the ones who are worried the most. Their "image" means everything, and their looks are all they base their image on. It is sad.

We are living in a very material world now and image is everything not just with our bodies but with the cars we drive the shoes we wear and with the boom on health consciousness today is it so surprising that it has funneled to our children

The media is a strong influence on the way we look at ourselves. The next top model is not going to be 200 lbs. usually, maybe possibly someday, but that's not what sells to people right now.
