You're probably not shy...just nervous...and that's natural. Different people react differently to uncomfortable situations. Remember that he's probably nervous too. Don't worry so much about what he MAY or MAY NOT be thinking... You'll get better at this with time...we all do!

Unfortunately, you can get rid of shyness without mind altering chemicals(drugs, alcohol). I don't suggest using those either. I'm naturally a pretty shy guy, but in high school I took drama and you learn to get over that in drama.
To get rid of the nervousness, however, you have to play tricks on your mind, in a sense. Just remember that this is only one guy, and even if you lose him there'll be plenty more coming along. If you can convince yourself of this, then you may be able to relax.
And just do that. Whenever he comes around, just focus on relaxing, don't focus on him. Eventually you'll find relaxing comes a little more naturally, and then you can focus on the guy.
Like I said, you can't get over shyness without lots of what I like to call "introvert's trauma." I had that, and it helped. But nervousness you can get over, but it takes work.
Also you could just try telling him you like him.

Talk to more guys and you'll build up the confidence. Next time you see a nice guy anywhere, just say hi as you're walking by. Practice makes perfect.

Just remember he's a regular person just like you. He's not perfect, just got to remember he has faults like everyone else no matter what he might look like. So next time just try to be yourself like when your talking to one of your friends. It might be hard at first but the more you talk to him and realize he's just like everyone else it will get better. Good Luck!!!!
