In phone books, business cards, newspaper adds all have crosses fish scriptures or quoted verses. Do they really think they fool religious people into dealing with them? Is this respect for those symbols?

The answer is that people like that:
A) Do not respect those symbols.
B) Take advantage of the meanings of these symbols for greedy reasons.
C) Disrespect the people that they are trying to sucker in.
D) The feel that people who are gullible enough to believe that will believe anything they say.
E) ALL OF THE ABOVE!

The answer is E. All of the above.

The only thing more greedy than regular business people are religious business people.
I will not deal with ANYONE that will stoop to abusing these symbols on their advertisement to greedily draw suckers in.

I meant, if they are that desperate, the must have problems with their products, their environment or keeping their word and trying to make people think they are more honest than the really are.

I do not think you are overgeneralizing ... Personally speaking from my own experience, I have NEVER meet anyone that used these symbols that I would trust my business to!

I don't see anything wrong with letting the public know that someone is running a Christian Company. I do have to agree in part with the first person though by saying I think a lot of people use those symbols and scriptures to "trick" people into using their company instead of another one. I do believe there are good Christian Company's out there that do use those symbols respectfully, but also like the first answerer said, some company's may be using them to lure people in. I think there are a lot of good honest Christian and Non-Christian companies out there, but the ones that use those symbols as a "lure" unfortunately are hindering the ones that don't use those symbols as "lures".
Those companies that are using those symbols as a "lure" because they think it looks good or just because they may like it, are, unfortunately, the same people that are the reason a lot of people don't go to church because they were tricked into using a company that was just in it for the money or they might have had another bad experience. But we won't go there b/c this question isn't about going to church, it's about carefully chosing a company.

I have said the same to people. I feel a lot of Businesses just use the symbols knowing/thinking Christians will trust them. So, I really not pay attention to those things, I ask around and get Recommendations from others who good and trustworthy.

See i dont see why some people think this is wrong. Is it wrong to have a cross in a church? No. Some people have religious bumber stickers on their cars. Thats alright by me. Some realtors have fish symbols on their home listings. It just shows people that this person is Christian, ect. Some people like the fact that if they are dealing with a Christian person they may not get cheated or swindled out of their money. I thinks its just another freedom of expression.

The symbols of which you speak were created by first century Christians which suffered persecution and execution by their Roman masters. They were used as covert identification between believers in Jesus the Christ. The appearance of the fish symbol on a vendors table in the market place identified him as a believer, and that he would be sympathetic to the needs of other believers. It was also posted in unobtusive places on the residence to announce a place of refuge for those suffering persecution. The posting of these symbols in this modern society has become popular good luck symbols, (like the cross neclace or pendant), or visual pronouncements of Christian faith. The truth is that Christianity is not about what you say or proclaim, but what you do. Christianity is not about religion, but relationship. Those who have real relationship with Jesus do not need symbols to proclaim that relationship, their lives will be a true witness. Someone who has to say, "I am a Christian", probably does not live a lifestyle which identifies them as such. Jesus said you will know the tree by its fruit,( not by the noise of the wind passing through its branches). If you see a vehicle with a Christian symbol on its bumper or trunk, and the driver is exceeding the speed limit, they serve a religious spirit but they are not true followers of Christ. One of His most basic instruction to those who serve Him is to obey the laws of the land, unless those laws come into conflict with His instructions, then we are to follow Him. Many times these symbols are used by believers in business for the same reason as in the beginning, to identify businesses where all people can come and be treated fairly and with respect, and where the proprietor is honest and keeps his word. But wheather they are used for good or evil, one constant remains, you will know true believers by how they live and conduct themselves, not by the number of symbols they display.

Are we sure that we want to overgeneralize and paint all people who use such symbols as deceptive? Maybe a Jew wants to let potential customers know he's a Jew, so he puts a star of David on his ad (or a Christian a fish, or a Muslim a crescent). Are all such advertisements the intentional act of deception? Certainly people do lie, but are all such people liars?

The symbols help merchants shuck and fleece the sheep. It sure doesn't mean that the quality of their work is better or the price is lower. It just means when they screw up and you are really mad, they do not have to ask you for forgiveness, they just ask some dead guy. Jesus would kick their butts if he was still around.

i avoid such people like the plague.

when I'm doing business with someone, I don't give a damn what religions he/ she is. I want quality work for a good price. That's all. Don't take advantage of the moment to make a religious comment to me.

My guess is because it looks pretty? When you want someone to notice something, you draw a nice picture to go with it that relates to the subject :) I wouldn't say it is an attempt to "fool" anyone, but rather to draw attention to something for the purpose of sharing what they feel makes them very happy inside.

the fish = in olden days where romans were running around killing chrristians, if they wanted to know if they were a beliver or not, someone would draw half a fish and if the other person were a christian, then he would draw the rest
the cross =jesus' love for us, (kinda self-explainitory)
scriputures=is a way of witnessing to others
