Empty the Recycle bin. Run the degragmentizer. Delete and maybe uninstall unneeded programs. (Be careful with this!) Run the disc cleanup. Delete any stored songs you ripped and burned but no longer need to save on the hard drive. Also delete cookies and internet files periodically. This is a start. Theres many other things you can also do. You mostly have to increase your storage space on disc C. You could also add more memory if you have to.
Another thing is do a virus scan and a spyware scan. These are two different scans, by the way. This should be done every week or couple weeks maybe.

the cheepest way to upgrade a computer is to buy more RAM for it.. random access memory.. this is what makes your computer run fast.. its also a simple process too.. Look in your computer guide to tell you what kind of RAM to buy.. but, it could be because you run to many procress, try closing some. by holding Ctrl + alt+ delete and opening the task manager.. Click the tab that says process, and start to close some that you do not need. It could also be because you just do not have a good enough processor, which would require you to buy a new one. again look in your computer guide which came with your computer when you bought it. if you computer is running slow due to many virus'. try to get a virus protector / spyware detector.. or try reformating your computer.. You can also clean up your hard-drive a bit, getting rid of programs you haven't used in along time that were probably not going to use again. Good luck

It's hard to answer such a vague question with a specific answer. So, I'll give you some general tips:

1) Get more RAM. The more memory in your computer, the faster it will run.
2) Clean up your hard-drive. Get rid of unnecessary files, delete temporary internet files, etc..
3) Remove SPYWARE/ADWARE and disable unnecessary programs that may be running at boot-up.

Good luck.

Run a free spyware...the best one is located on the top Yahoo! toolbar. You probably have spyware and adware which can decrease the speed of your computer. Also run a virus check, clean files and defrag. It will be much faster after that!

start -> run -> msconfig

remove anything useless on startup and remove any services you dont need. To see what the programs do look them up on google search. To see what the windows services do type

start -> run -> services.msc
then just read the descriptions
the more programs you turn off, the more space/speed you have to run whatever you want.
Or you could just add more ram!!

keep deleting your temporary file from start->run->temp and start->run->%temp% . Delete all the files appearing at those folders.Also you may defragment your computer after every 2-3 months to get better speed.

The only thing I can think of is If you have games saved on it that you haven't played for months, delete them. For example, "Morrowind" takes up an insane amount of hardrive space. So does "The Sims."
