People, especially Americans, feel that their religion isn't a questionable thing but a fact. The FACT is that they have never seen their God, no one has. Their Bible is written by someone not some God. And they are supposed to believe without a doubt that these things exist after all the hate and evil we see in the world. Natural disasters are killing millions every year, why would a God do this to his people? How many people can be right when there are 50 different religions with millions of followers each? I think if you agree on our freedom of religion laws you are agreeing it is very likely we don't have the right idea.
I don't frown upon you being an atheist. It isn't very popular amongst Christians obviously, but a lot of evil people are self acclaimed athests. Of course, a lot of evil people are also self acclaimed Christians as well. If you live in America, you have that right. I might not agree, but it isn't my life to tell you what you should think and believe in. I don't feel that you should do anything to hurt people, but if you believe you are a positive member of society you are better than MANY Christians.
Do what you must, believe what you must. I hate fake people.

Ok, I don't hate you because you are an atheist. However, I've talked to a lot of "atheists" who aren't really. They all say "and if there if a God..." And there is. I personally think that the reason that your friends are "frowning upon" you, is that they care whether or not you go to heaven or hell. If they care about you at all they would feel responsible for sharing something (Someone) as wonderful as God is with you. I would hope so anyway!!
I care about your soul enough, that I hope you will choose salvation, and I don't even know you. I applaude your friends for trying. At least you know they care. And if they are going about it in the wrong way... sorry! But the end result will still be the same no matter if they choose the right words or not.
**Its like this, If you are right and I die, no big deal, I go back to dirt, no soul... you would be right. But it won't matter to a casket of dirt... However if you die, and I am right... What then, what about your soul? I'd hate to think of anyone in hell, but there are some who choose it.
As far as having your own beliefs....You can. This is America. You have rights. However, you also have the right to be wrong. Eternity isn't the question you want to answer wrong.

Well I am Agnostic(is a person who feels that God's existence can neither be proved nor disproved) Thats enough to set some people off. Some people think that Atheist is a devil worshiper when in fact it is...denial of the existence of God or gods and of any supernatural existence...
so in my opinion everyone needs to mind there own buisness
make there own decitions and leave all to there own......
What i really believe in is me and my ability to be a good person, and my ability to admit that im wrong , and to admit i dont have all the answers, and that I can be down right awful sometimes..
I think that only someone or something with no compassion could hurt people for there beliefs (kinda reminds me of Hitler)
But I think IF there is a God Id like to believe that he'd not be on such a power trip like some label him as being.Id like to think that he'd not send people to eternal Hell for not having the same beliefs as him, I mean we were all made to be indiviguals right, so how could anyone expect everyone to be the same??

Not everyone frowns on you for being an atheist. Some people have no problem at all with that.
However, you also say that you "just simply don't understand why we can't all have our own beliefs." Some beliefs are just plain wrong and must be confronted with truth.
For example, there ARE people in this world who believe that their religion wants them to kill those who refuse to join their religion. That is a fact that no one should ignore. Those types of belief MUST be confronted. Accepting all beliefs as equally valid is dangerously naive and will eventually lead to death and destruction.

I was Catholic for most of my life (granted, I'm not that old, but my entire family is psychotically religious) and then one day I told my parents that I firmly believed in gay marriage and they told me I should stop receiving communion and I should talk to a priest about it. Well, I stopped receiving communion and realized that I really wasn't missing out on anything. It's been almost a year since then and I've come to the conclusion that I believe in a greater power, but that's all I know.
Anyway, the point is that I've taken a ton of crap for it. Apparently I'm going straight to hell because I don't believe what the catholic church teaches. I've heard that a lot, seeing as how I went to a catholic school. Granted, there are plenty of people who didn't judge me, but the ones who did made it clear that I was going straight to hell.
I'm convinced that it's because they're so insecure in their lives and so scared of death that they have to have something to cling to, to know that this isn't it all there is. And they are just as scared of anyone who doesn't believe that they do. They don't understand why people don't need the extra comfort of having religion.

Because they are attacking you, you're noticing these types and probably aren't noticing the many passive people out there who are tolerant to any belief. There are forceful people like this in every school of thought. There are also many Atheists that like to attack Christians.
As well, unfortunately a lot of religious people are taught that it is their duty to help the non believers "find God"!
Personally I have spiritual beliefs, but I don't believe in religion, or a human-like God. Those that are passive in their religious or otherwise beliefs, I leave them alone and appreciate that their method works for them. But I sometimes have something to say to the overly judgemental types who speak out against those who have different beliefs.

Generally speaking, Christianity teaches people that all non-Christians are evil and equivalent to Satan or the "anti-Christ."
Not all Christians adopt that belief, but enough do to make Christianity fairly characterized as a "hate group."
Ethics (or "morals") is not determined by how you treat people you agree with, it is determined by how you treat people with whom you don't agree.
Sadly, many Christians do not learn much from their religion other than how to hate.
I don't say that to offend, I say it as a statement of fact. The evidence is all over this forum, throughout the media and anywhere Christians congregate where they feel free to exercise their hatred.
Oh, well, such is life.
BTW, I'm an atheist but was a practicing Christian for over 30 years so I know exactly what "they" preach about atheists and non-Christians.

Your choice is different, which scares some people. I've been told the same thing; I'm an Earth religion, Eclectic Wiccan. I've been told I'm a Satan worshiper, devil's spawn, going to Hell, etc. I grew up Roman Catholic & have heard quite a bit & worse. Remember, you can have the last laugh on those who judge you, simply by knowing that if they're true to their religious choice & have the blind faith that they should, they'll have to do pennance, rosary, prayers, etc to be at peace with what they've said to you. Those that don't are just fooling themselves.

We can and do have our own beliefs. Some people always feel better about themselves when they tell someone else they're "eternally damned." It makes them feel superior, especially misguided Christians who have missed the whole point of who they say their God is, and the Bible. They don't even see their own hypocrisy. At least you are not a hypocrite.
