Depends upon the parents. Good ones tell the cops that the use was not authorized and the kid gets charged with theft or unauthorized use.

I was in situation a couple of years ago. I live in california by the way. I took my grandparents car(whom i was living with at the time) Drove it about 50-60 miles from home crashed it getting back on the freeway(into a bigrig) very scary-more so after the fact lol... anyways i was already on probation. So they called my P.O. and picked me up from the police staion there, went to my county's juvinile hall(by the way this is the 3rd time i stole their car 1st time crashing it, and 2nd time my p.o. knew about it. What ended up happening was i did some time for a v.o.p.(violation of probation) but i dont think i got a knew charge. It depends on if your parents want to press charges, if the other driver wants to file a claim, and also what your own past history is. (if this was handled by the police at all, the D.A. (district attorny) will want to press charges himself-which unfortunatly he can. but the judge usually doesnt go through with it. Good luck

A friend of mine (at the time; it was 1987) took his parent's car out and crashed it before he was of driving age. He was unable to get a drivers license until 6 months after he was legal to drive. I was pulled over in my parents car before I had a ldrivers license and I just received a good whoopin' from my father (1986). I didn't wreck anything, although I was pulled over for driving recklessly. They did suspend my moped license (LOL, looking back).

dude if you were that teen or your friend man i hope that you/ there parents are forgiving. what you have to do is admit that what you did was wrong and offer to do things like chores to try and make up for what you did. do not deny what you did, it will only make things worse. just tell your parents that your sorry and offer some way of negotiating with them other wise your punishment might be pretty severe. I hope your or your friend is okay and good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-you'll need it

Its all depends on the parent's rules and its strictness. Most parent will not allow teens to drive parent's car unless mother or father sits beside him/her.
