No, because the poor are subsidized by the middle class and whealthier classes. They do not carry their own weight. Social Security in particular was counted on by the baby boomers when they were planning their retirement, and they were told relatively recently that there wasn't enough to support them all. It already sounds like some will get more than others. Again, it is likely the poorer will get more. For those who have been paying in all of their lives, and were counting on that for retirement that is difficult enough without putting more poor into the system to get first priority on whatever is left to pay out.

Taxes are the same way. If you don't make much, you don't pay much. In fact you may well get a credit. Meanwhile it costs $18,000 to educate a child for one year in California, and that is an average number. Bilingual education costs more.

I am not talking about those already here. Once the border is secure and so long as we put off thinking about a guest worker program until we know what we will need, I would legalize those here, except for the nasty ones. That is for reasons of humanity and practicality. However, I would not also let them bring in THEIR family under any preference. Family would have to come in under existing quotas. Otherwise we are talking about many times the number of illegals already here, rather than the 12 to 20 million we already have.

Generally, however, I feel very strongly that we need to end illegal immigration or at least slow it to a trickle. We also need a sensible immigration plan over all, and not the one in the Senate Bill.

In a word NO. According to the PEW Hispanic research center, the over whelming majority of illegals from Mexico do not want to be counted, they do not want to be citizens, they don't care about assimilation, they do not want to be Americans.
