Sheeple is quite a funny term (one I have started to use so i hope there is no copyright). However Sheep follow that may be a good thing or bad thing depending on whom they follow. They can easily become victims. I consider it wise to question and test everything.
Fundamentalists are often sheeple but IMHO are more dangerous as they want to lead, bully and control. They can find victims and make them "twice the sons of hell" that they are.

I think a fundamentalist is one whose focus is on the basics or fundamentals of a discipline. That's not to say that they never progress beyond the elementary principles, it's just that they stay true to form or the structural integrity of an ideology.
Not sure about sheeple. Pretty sure it's a derogatory slur for Christians and it implies that they don't think for themselves. I get that there are some people who hold fast to something they've been told and they have no idea why they believe it, but it's truth to them. But in some respects, the sheep have the good sense to follow a Shepherd. There are some things that we cannot know. I don't believe that faith negates thinking. Faith is a decision to trust and move forward because you believe that the One leading can see what you cannot see.

Right on! Rose.
To answer your question, those who are did not come up with the term.
I am a Christian and you can call me by anything you want, that does not change who I am.

1 John 4: 3
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of anti christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is in the world.
