Mac OS X is sooooo much better than XP or even the much anticipated Vista. It's just how it is. Just compare Bill Gates and Steve Jobs (http://presentationzen.blogs.com/presentationzen/2005/11/the_zen_estheti.html). Mac OS is more visually appealing, and uses visual cues. Compare the start menu with a long list of words with the Dock, which is visually apparent at a glance where your favorite app is. You can recongize an image a lot faster than you can read something, so you are more productive, especially when multi-tasking. The interface is more visually appealing with the brushed metal, and not the distracting blue bars(especially when working with visual applications). Applications are more inclusive as far as windows open and multi-tasking is made faster by the OS and the user. The "control panel" is called "System Preferences", and it much more organized and simpler to customize than XP. I could go on and on, but you'll just have to give it a try. it may take a few days to get used to it, but you will notice a better experiance all the way around.

There are alternatives obviously, but what you can use and what is best depends on what you need to do with it.

You need to figure out what you need to do and what your technical capabilities are before you ask that question...because those two elements are part of the question.

If you have at least 256Mb of RAM and a burner you do not even need a hard drive. I am using verison 1.0.7 Multisession...

I am also running it on a 133Mhz with 64Mb of RAM. It is only a 60Mb download.
