I have a Windows XP as my OS for my Desktop computer.Even though I shut down the computer as recommended(from the start menu or ALT + F4),i get a message"Windows has encountered an error from which it cannot recover" when i relogin on switching my computer.I have been religiously sending the Error reports to MS.
My Q. is twofold,
1.Why am i getting this message everytime i relogin?
2.Does Microsoft really care about the error reports that users send?

Looks like your comp. is running some other programs in the background which r not compactiable with it.Hence the error.
MS receives so many reports from users so i guess they dont reply each and every report but i really dont know.

Yes Microsoft does care. As the other said they get huge numbers of these every day. I do send the errors once in a while and always get an answer. Most of the time not the answer i want but it is an answer. Yes most likely you have added something to your computer or some add ware program has added something that will not run properly with MS OS. Some times it takes a while to find the problem. There is a program from MS called one care that may help you. I have it now and find it does help find things better that give the OS problems. It also helps me not getting such problems. Check it you in the windows cataloger. Microsoft can not anticipate every thing that will be loaded in your computer but all in all they do a very good job. Use the trouble shooter and what ever you can. It does take time for some of these things.

1) Seems that your computer is running some applications or drivers at the background that is not compatiable with your OS. So, you receive the error.

2) Personally, I don't think Microsoft really care because they received millions error from the client computers for different issue. And they won't solve your personal computer issue if you send to them.

Sorry to tell you that, you are on your own and find solution somewhere else.
