The Coast Guard is a fine career move. Your best bet for information is at their web site and with a recruiter.

You have to be able to meet the physical qualifications (weight/height/general health/etc), pass some tests they will give you, and provide documentation such as birth certificate, school transcripts, valid social security number, at least 18 (17 if your parents will allow). A recruiter will walk you through the process and help assemble everything you need.
