Most places in the city are fairly expensive in August because of the tourism but I am sure you can find a cheaper one here

Pretty much stick with anything that is within the 'Choice Hotel' brand hotel chains. Which includes: Quality, Clarion, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Sleep Inn, Econo Lodge and Roadway Inn.

They also give you discounts if you're a member of certain things such as: 50+ Mature Traveler Rate, AAA/CAA member, Choice Business Rate, Goverment Military Rate, and Internet Rate.

A tip: Call to book it. I always found the price they gave me on the phone was cheaper then the price they gave me online.

And these hotels are nice. Its kind of a cross between a hotel/motel but without the digne-ness of a motel.
