They can't stand the smell of orange oil.

However, you might want to try putting some sheets of aluminum foil on your couches. Cats don't like that, either.

Get a spray bottle that squirts quite a distance and makes stream or spray. Cats hate getting wet. Cats are intelligent. The words "Get off my furniture!" are understood. Water is enough, but a little lemon or peppermint in it makes it more of a strong statement to a cat. As you train the cat to spend more time in approved places, say, "What a good kitty kat you are. You're in a GOOD PLACE! with a caress under the chin

try a spray bottle of water of water. When the get on couch give them a hit of water but do not let then see you spray them. That way they will associate the spray to being on couch and not associate it to you. Cats do not like being sprayed with water.

Why stop them? I love cuddling with my cat while I read or watch TV. His fur sticks to it, but I use a sticky roller (you know, one of those roller things with tape on them to take fuzz off stuff) to get the couch clean. But really, any sort of punishment (like the screaming that was suggested above) will only make them stop hangin' on the couch when you're home... but they'll roll all over it when you leave!

CATS USUALLY DON'T LIKE WATER. GET A SPRAY BOTTLE WITH WATER, EVERYTIME THEY START TO JUMP ON THE COUCH JUST SPRAY THEM THE CAT THAT IS, WITH THE WATER. EVENTUALLY THEY WILL GET THE HINT, AND QUIT JUMPING UP THERE. HOPE IT HELPS..

I don't think you should do that cause.. it will ruin your furniture and I'm sure whatever smell cats don't like, you wouldn't like it too, so would you like to have that fussy smell every time you enter the room? eh?
