My poodle does not yap. His mother was bad for that and I didn't want him to be annoying. I treated him like he was my other dog, 130 pounds of lean rotteweiller. He now acts like a well-behaved dog, no yapping. The rotty has been gone for one year now and we have the little 3.5 pounder, good as gold for one and a half years.

Yorkies are the best. They have long hair but no under coat. The hair is just like people hair. I did a lot of research before I got Lucy and one of the things I looked at was which dogs were good for people with allergies. Poodles and Yorkies are on the top of the list. Yorkies however have this big dog attitude and if you train them right are not Yappers. Lucy gives me hours of entertainment and she is truly a lap dog. She loves to just sit close to me and let me pet her. Sometimes she even shows me her tender underbelly so that I can pet it. That is a special treat that she doesn't do for just anyone.

The best lap dogs are the small ones that do not shed like a maltese, yorkie, and poodles. They all yap but you can teach them not to. I think all small dogs will yap, cuz they are just being a natural guard dog. Those three do not shed whatsoever and they love cuddles.
Golden retrievers are very cuddly too, but it really depends on how you raise them. Big dogs shed, I dont know any big dogs that do not shed.
sorry, but I cant stand chihuahuas. They are little mean creatures and they are never cuddly and after that "yo quiero taco bell" commercials, they remind me of big rats! They are cute tho!

I always had Bassett Hounds, and after my 14 year old Myrtle passed away, decided I wanted a lap dog...got a Chihuahua...is the sweetest dog alive. A true lap dog...would sit all day with me, if I would let her. She is not a yapper, and great with my teenage daughters.

I have a Maltese, and he's such a loving lap dog. He doesn't shed at all. He's also suppose to be considered low allergy. I have allergy's to dogs and he doesn't bother me at all. You should consider a Maltese. There sweet and adorable. You do have to get them groomed every 2-3 months though. But you should get one!!!!

Well you might want to look into a pug. If you get a small bred one they are the cutest little things you will ever see! and they are usually pretty lazy so if you dont want a hyper dog a you might like a pug.

We have two miniature dachshunds - one short hair and one long-hair. They are both EXCELLENT dogs and I would highly recommend a miniature dachshund to anyone. They have great temperaments, super lap dogs, and very sweet and loving dogs. Miniature dachshunds should weigh less than 10 pounds; mine are about 8 pounds, so they are perfect, sweet dogs.

A Miniature Pinscher is the best lap dog and it is the cutest dog to have on your lap. They do not shed at all. They will not yap if you train them well like I did my dog.

my italian greyhound loves to sit on my lap as long as i have a quilt to cover him up. He loves being close and is very mild natured. You just need to be careful that he doesnt get hurt by your 3 yr old since they are pretty delicate.
